Cheap air intake - Ram Air
Seems a question comes up on intakes often. I built and have used this on my 2003 since new, and it works great.
1. Made using a galvanized dryer vent. $4.00 at a hardware store.
2. Remove the inside door flap (remember this is for a clothes dryer).
3. Using the vent tube, trace a circle around the bottom of your air box. Cut the circle out staying inside the lines (Its better if it's a tight fit).
4. Cut the vent tube down to approximately 3/4 inch. It started out to be about 8 inches in length.
5. Fit the tube in place, and position to the final position. I turned mine slightly inward to have it face the opening in the grill. Make a couple of marks so you can easily align it again.
6. Trace around the flange portion so it can be trimmed. Remove and trim. Use a file to debur all edges. Sheet metal is sharp!!
7. Put some RVT sealant around the tube and position back in hole.

View through headlight opening (from when I added the Brite Box):
8. Drill 4 holes through the box and sheet metal flange and secure with screws.
9. Using window screen material, secure around 4” vent with a hose clamp (to keep the big stuff out).
10. Added Pro-Guard 7 filter.

I put a toliet flange on the bottom of mine ran a piece of ground tile pipe from it down to just behind the front bumper (DIY PSM mod). I think you could turn that into a ram air setup even better. It's a good 4" I'd bet.

I just cut a big piece of pipe and pointed it towards the foglights through a 6 inch hole i cut, also i cut the pipe so it acts as more of a guide due to tons of rain.

I have a 4" flange with about 1' of pipe running straight down in front of the well well liner. Window screen and pantyhose material hose clamped on the end to keep out the big stuff.

One other thing that can be used, I have used speaker cloth as a pre-filter.
Keeps all of the big stuff out but allows plenty of air and the stuff I used was not affected by fuel or weather

It was far more fun telling, what is now the ex-GF, that I needed any of her black panty hose she was going trough away, in the garage.
I don't think I ever did mention the exact reason why - kept her thinking.

I also added screen material secured with silicone to stock opening since that is open to the wheel well. It seems a lot of stuff including snow can make it's way into the air box through the stock opening.
Cheers
