Carli mini leaf spring question.....

I am having these installed tomorrow morning. http://www.thecarlisuspension.com/do.../addapack.html

To get things straight, I pull out the bottom real thick spring..... or all the bottom springs except the main one. Then I keep the factory overloads???? I do have about 7-800 lbs in the bed at all times. The guy doing the install has me a little confused and wants to just re-arc my stockers and add a leaf. I kinda want to use the Carli springs I paid for. I know I am the customer and he already said he would do what I want. Only question is what do I want?

Get rid of the stock overload and install the mini pack. I was going to have mine rearched and decided to stop by and talk to Jeff at Deaver Springs. He talked me out of that and into something different as well.

I am much happier with what I have now and knew for a fact I would be.

I pulled the thick overload, the top overload with the pads on it, and I think the leaf next to that one. Three leafs total.

I need clarification on what you describe as overload springs. What I call them is the 2 extra ones on top of the main leaf spring pack that when compressed will rest against the tabs on the frame. But I am also getting reports that the overload springs is the very bottom thick one that rests upon the axle. I am still thinking of keeping the top 2 springs for my definition of overload, but replacing everything but the main one. Clear as mud?

I have personally done this on my own truck and did numerous adjustments / experimants.

The only thing that needs to get removed is the is the thickest "load carrying" leaf at the bottom of the OEM spring pack. The "add-a-pack" then gets installed in it's place. My truck also had two 5/8" shims between the axle and the load leaf (the very bottom one has the centering pin and bolts). These can be used to fine tune the final ride height. One my application I found it best to remove one of the shims.

Wow.... just the bottom thick one..... so the other 3 stock springs stay in place. I just might get the guys at the shop to follow instructions that came with the leaf packs!!!! LOL

If your doing it on the 3500 I think you have an extra overload above as well that should only come into play with relly heavy loads. It really depends on what kind of max load you expect to see. If it was mine I'd probably leave the upper overloads in place unless I was never going to carry heavy loads.

I removed all three of those. My thoughts were why buy a spring pack designed to flex more than limit its travel with overload springs? If towing/hauling is your number one priority keep the factory pack.
