Can you update a Smarty Jr with windows 7?
Received my new Smarty Jr yesterday, thought that we would update it before loading it on the truck. Having problems with windows 7, however. On 2 computers all we get is FTD2xx.dll not found. On another computer it deleted the program on the smarty, but has an error when it tries to install the new program. I spent hours last night trying different things and researching the net for help. Seems to be a common problem. Am very frustrated right now. Am ready to bust out an old copy of windows ME and install it on an old laptop to see if that will work

Yes I did. I made a Smarty folder with the SmartyUSB and unzipped
CDM20824_WHQL_Certified.zip and unzipped SJRV514B_URS01C.7z. That's what has me confused.

Ok. You'll need to go into the Windows Device Manager after plugging in the Smarty unit. Looked for the banged out USB device. Open up the properties for that device and update the driver by pointing to the directory where you unzipped the Smarty USB files.

Thanks for the help.
We've been trying to do that since Saturday. Unfortunately windows won't let us change the driver. It just keeps saying the correct driver is already installed. I even uninstalled the driver, disconnected the computer from the internet then tried to install the smarty driver but windows wouldn't let me.

Did you follow the instructions here: MADS Electronics - Smarty - CaTCHER - FAQ regarding the ftd2xx.dll error to pull out the ini files?
Second faq down.
It also says you dont need to download the certified.zip file. That on 7 windows automatically loads the correct driver. Only the usb driver needs to be used.

Windows isn't recognizing the device so it can't load a driver for it.
I'll get with Brian at Smarty tomorrow on the phone and we'll get it figured out.
Thanks for the help.

No issues here with W7. Must be something you are (or aren't) doing.
As much as I hate M$ and winblows, it does work.
I just followed directions on the mads site.
I think I used:
MADS Electronics - Smarty - User Defined CaTCHER - Download

When we plug it into any computer W7 doesn't recognize the device and says that the device is defective. Sending it to SmartyResource and having them look at it.

Turns out that it did have a bad circuit board that was preventing it from updating. Smarty Resource fixed it and I should have it back tomorrow. Can't wait!

Got it back today and loaded on the ecm. Much easier than I expected. Since I won't be towing until June I'm just going for fuel mileage now. I set it at sw2, timing default, torque 1 and PoD 80. I was surprised how much my egt's dropped, was easy to hit 1200 before, now barely hits 900. And runs so much smoother. I always get around 13.5 mpg around town, thought I'd try these settings for a tank or two and see what I get. I'm very happy just with the drop in egt's, can't wait to tow with it.
Thanks
Thanks
