Can I turn the front coil spring (superlift)?

Hey guys.

My pass. side coil is hitting my superlift endlink. On the drivers side the way the coil sits the open end of the coil is facing the endlink and no problem. I want to do the same on the pass. side.

Can I just rotate the coil 1/4 turn clockwise? And if so, how?

Thanks,

Igor.

They are "supposed" to sit in the bucket so that the bottom end of the coil faces inward, perpendicular to the frame.

But, you can turn the coils however you need to in order to keep that contact from being made.

Just unload the suspension. A 4x4 or 6x6 on top of a floor jack, and jack the truck up by the frame. The truck goes up, the axle stays put, and you should be able to turn the coil. If not, you will need to undo the sway bar to get the suspension to decompress all the way.

Or, if you have access to a vehicle lift that raises the vehicle by the frame, not the tires, then you can do it that way.

Or, if you have a tractor with a front end loader, you can hook up a strap to both tow hooks and lift the front of the vehicle that way.

Or, you could just jack the vehicle up by the front axle as high as you can possibly get it, put some jack stands under the frame behind the control arms, let the jack down, and watch the axle drop while the frame stays put. You'll need to jack the truck WAY up.

Righton, thanks.

I tried just the one side (jacking by frame), but it was not enough to let me turn it. I'll try to get the entire truck up today and see where that leads me, and/or undo the endlinks.

Thanks a lot,

Igor.

You will probably have to undo the swaybar link to get it to droop enough. Not hard though, because it is only one nut on each side.

a spring compressor will make it alot easier. just apply it to the spring before you unload the suspension... I used a chain when I did my leveling kit - thought I was gonna die that night!!!

a spring compressor is dangerous and will NOT make it any easier than disconnecting the sway bar links. just don't disconnect them while it's under "pressure"...ie one side jacked up.

later, dustin

I just did it yesterday Put a jack stand under the frame rail. Then put a jack under the axle and diconnect the lower shock bolt and the swaybar end link then lower the jack holding the axle. Just lower it until your brake line is about taught and the coil will turn.
