Can I run 35's w/3.73 & 6spd????

I have an 06' 3/4 ton with the 6 speed manual trans. I just finished putting a leveling kit on it, and eventually want to get larger tires. I would like to put 315's but, I am leaning more towards 285's or 295's. As discussed in other topics, I am running pretty high RPM's at 70mph. I would think the 315's would knok me down a few hundered, would that effect MPG's? I don't want to lose pulling ability though. I do not pull anything extremely heave though. The most is just a car hauler with a fulsize truck, or an 18 foot flatbed, loaded with 4wheelers, and gear. I just am not sure what size would suit me best.

bigger tires will knock down RPM at hwy speeds...YES. At hwy speeds do bigger tires have a possibility to give you better MPG...YES. In town, bigger tires will LOWER fuel economy. Bigger tires will affect towing...yes.

Bigger tires and/or off-road will accelerate the wear of Ball Joints and other front end components....i had 285 mudders on my truck for 3k and now i have ball joint issues....note my truck has been beat around off road alot. I wish i would have kept stock tire size now...front end problems at hwy speeds is scary!

watch the load rating on whatever tire you pick, but a 315 would probably be OK for you.

The 315's will look great with your leveling kit. I wouldn't worry about losing any towing power with the 315's and the G56. It will still be geared plenty low. I have towed a 10,000lb car trailer with my 315's and NV5600, and it pulled just fine in overdrive.

I bought the diesel so i didn't have to worry about what tire size did.

My brother tows a very large boat with 35's all the time and he couldn't really notice the difference.

When I had my 35's on my stock leveled truck, I could get 23-24 mpg calculated at the pump as long as I ran around 65mph(forgot the actual RPM).
As soon as I'd bump it up to 70, the gas mileage would plummet to about 18. I never could tell a real power loss.

Either way, I got better mileage with the 35's cuz my RPM's were so frickin high with the little stockers on it. If you do nothing but stop and go, you might get worse mileage.

My rig is still pretty new but MPG aside you will enjoy the driveability of your truck much more with the taller tire meaning you can go more than ten feet in between shifts when starting from a stop. I am up to about 18 on the freeway nowat any speed. around home 25miles per day 60mph top speed hilly terrain I am reading 15/16. Not what I was hopin for but hey

I run 315's and 3:55's on my 02 6 speed and it is not an issue at all. Mileage is great on the highway, didn't really notice any change in mileage around town.

I tow as heavy as 11,000 lbs and it's not a big deal either.

Go for it!

Thanks for the input, I just didn't want to go to big and regret it later.

I have heard this before, including steering boxes. I noticed the Power Wagon comes with 285's stock. How are they getting those to last? Do they have different parts?

I have 80,000 on my 04 and have had 35" mud tires on it since 3000. I've got the 6speed and 3:73. No problem with the combo. Still pulls great and I get 19 miles to the gallon out here in this hilly country. All I do is hunt and fish so I'm off road a bunch. No ball joint problems with my truck.

Also anything less than a 35 on a leveled truck doesn't look right to me.

its hit and miss....i personally know my truck has left the ground twice in the air. ooooops. haha. now that i'm on like 4th opinion with my truck, this guy thinks shocks. Bilsteins are going to be installed and we'll see.

i know of a lot of trucks off road alot too with NO problems...luck of the draw i guess....just like death wobble was random...some trucks had it, others didn't.

I'm thinking the power wagon does OK because it doesn't have the weight of a CTD. for some reason i recall power wagons being 2k lighter, don't know where i got that info....for some reason i think its 2k.

Hmm, 2,000 lbs sounds like a lot, especially since the Power Wagon has the winch and associated mounts up front. I think the Cummins weighs about 1,100 lbs, probably 700 lbs or so more than the HEMI, and assume the tranny is a bit heavier also. I'm betting the Power Wagon is closer to 1,000 lbs lighter than a comparable 2500 CTD.

probably so ptgarcia. i was quoted "2k" somewhere....can't even remember but it didn't sound right to me anyway....your estimates sound better. its definitely lighter than a CTD for sure!
