bypass oil filter???

I was reading threw diesel power magazine and saw an add for a bypass oil filter system. I was wondering if anyone can give the pro's and con's for this. I dont think i have read anything about this on here so any information would be helpful.

Are you talking about the FS 2500? I have read good things about it. Here is one thread I found:

https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...ht=2500+bypass

I think Lightman uses this system, so you might PM him and get feedback. The Fs 2500 is probably the system I am going to use when I get enough miles to go synthetic (June).

Bypass oil filters are common on the industrial,& marine diesels I work on. They simpily filter the oil that is bypassed from the primary oil filter before going back to the sump.I've never seen one on a Dodge truck, but it couldn't hurt.

A bypass filters finer than the fullflow but there's not much need for one unless you want to extend your drains. Oilgaurd claims the oil can safely go twice the OEM period with their bypass. A bypass is nearly a must with ext. drain syn. oil - to get the most bang for the buck. Craig

I have the FS-2500 and I really like it, still a little scared of extended drains but I will be sending in an oil sample soon. I figure, the more filtration the better.

I have the Oilguard unit and it is a **** nice piece of hardware ! Mounted it up under my intake and install is a snap . As far as justification that's entirely up to you .......... some say yes ....... some say no but if you are going to do it get the Oilguard or similiar unit . WAY TOO MUCH $$$$ for the fs-2000 for my taste . I am a former Airframe / Powerplant mechanic who moved into trucking and then ready - mix trucks and absolutely every engine and hydraulic system I have ever wrenched on uses by -pass filtration . I am sold on by -pass but to each their own !
