bullydog, smarty, which is best?
ok, I am taking a crash course in diesels. Hopefully friday i will pickup my 2005 2500 ctd with lift and 35 inch tires, automatic tranny. I have been reading and reading. It has mostly scared me, lol , but what i really want is mpg. I know the big tires wont help, but i want them. Who can offer me the best mpg. I have seen some bulldog props, and on this site the smarty seems popular. I can see myself putting on a bigger exhaust and a chip that helps with gas mileage, Other than that i dont think i will want anymore. Oh yeh, if there is a air filter that is much better than stock i could do that also. What are you opinions on these questions. I am soaking all this up like a sponge.
P.S. please cut me some slack with the abbreviations, i have c.t.d. but besides that i get lost quick in here.

i agree with wap, don't stay confined to a programmer. modules are great as well. I also vote Quad XZT....the smarty will run you $695 and the Bullydog will run you $500-550 probably....and the Quadzilla.....its LOTS less.
but most of all, have fun with the truck!

I would highly recomend the bully dog. As for fuel mileage, I got a solid 2 mpg. I also like the fact that its upgradable, repairable, and has settings from mild to wild, it also works with all diesels. And, mine ran around 450.00 on sale, which is pretty cheap for any programmer.

BDDLs can be purchased easily for 350.00-425.00, buy it nows are 450 or so. Just check some of the major auction sites. Beware, although they are brand new the sellers usually don't know jack about what they sell, they're just trying to make a buck.

If you dont mind me askin, why are you gettin rid of your smarty?
The reason I'm selling my Smarty, over in the classified section is, I just don't believe they are intended for trucks that are mostly stock, like mine. I am not willing to get rid of the banks sixgun, and the Smarty just adds way to much to the mix, even on level 1, which is sad. To be totally honest, I think customer support after the sale from the "designer himself" totally SUX as well. I have posted questions here and have personally emailed him w/o any responses. I'm sure I'll get one now though. I also have one other issue I'll discuss at a later date once I have more info on it. Anyway, the Smarty just isn't right for me and my truck.

Fair enough.
By the way, if I had not ordered my tst this mornin I would make you an offer on the smarty. I would love to try one (and I am sure I will one day) and see what all the fuss is about but I need some other stuff befor the smarty.

I have tried a Smarty as well....and i don't like it. Would much rather have my Bullydog. I have written a lengthy review on the subject as well....and other things that ruffled my feathers that i did not like.
