Bullseye on Diesel Performance

Sorry for this but this is going to be a bit of a rant from someone here

We need to realise the the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) has a big bulls eye target on this market. We have to start being a little more responsible with our trucks, or you are going to find that you will have to be happy with what the factory gives you because you wont be able to modify them at all. Trucks that just belch black smoke are the reason that as an industry, there is a whole lot of unwanted attention being paid to us. This not only affects your fun because of the potential for losing aftermarket enhancements for your trucks, but it also affects lots of peoples ability to make an income.

Smoke is unburnt fuel. I find it pretty funny when you have people crying the blues about the price of fuel, but want to "SMOKE OUT" the sky. Am I not getting something here?

Anyways this is my rant, I thank you all for reading and taking a second to consider the possible outcome if we don't "clean up" our act.

Many may not agree with this but, it's my opinion on the subject.

I really doubt the aftermarket will ever be affected by the EPA. It's the manufacturers that have to bow down. People have modded and built cars and trucks for years and that won't stop.

We in the diesel world make barely a fraction of the pollution in the world. It's the big industry that needs to have a grip put on them to clean their act up.

China is now the biggest polluter in the world and yet, industry continues to go there and make more with no or very little regulation. Tell the EPA to go worry about them !

They way I look at it is.... this world was here long before we were and will be here long after we're gone. The world is billions of years old and we've ( humans ) have been here a blink of an eye in comparison. There's not much we can do to damage a planet... mother nature talks care of herself.

Look at the new 6.7 full of emissions crap and yet someone is making 500+ hp out of it and going for more. The aftermarket will always find a way

My truck smokes like a bugger when I want it too,, but I try very hard to not let it smoke much,, I kinda get embarassed by it, the only people that understand smoke is fellow diesel heads. So when I am cruising around town I drive with extreme egg foot syndrome

I don't need smoke, I want performance.

And I have to agree - smoke just gets you unwanted attention.

That is why we make the package deal. We dont make smoke switches and things that are going to make your truck smoke like a freight train. There is no reason a truck cant make good horsepower and be clean. The truck that won our last Dyno day was well over 100hp over the second place truck, but was one of the cleanest trucks on the dyno.

As far as the EPA not having any powers, just wait. The times they are a changing and well you all know the rest of what I said.

True we have always been able to find a way, but the point I am making is that LEGALLY we wont be able to do anything. This isnt something that I am making up, it was one of the hottest topics of discussion around SEMA.

i find it ironic-that these new diesel trucks have all the new emission garbage on it-to help the environment-but with all this new emission garbage, they are getting significant less mpg!!!! solved nothing!! i find it funny! the environment is fine- this great global warming myth will be exposed in 15 years when all the doom and gloom predictions don't come true! remember, in the late 70's and early 80's-they were warning us about global cooling! it is funny that they can't predict the weather correctly for a ten day forecast-but they know what is going to happen in 10,20 30 years! just saw a interview with the gentleman that started and created the weather channel. he has 40 years experience is his relating field. he also says this global warming movement is the biggest myth eve r created!! all it is, is a political movement!

I agree there's some irony there, but I also couldn't agree more with Pat's message. Unless you're talking HUGE power, there's really no need for all the smoke and the industry has to start somewhere to clean up it's act. I think it's great that we're starting to see major aftermarket manufacturers think like this.

If you notice, most of the guys making big power hate the smoke.

Times change, people change, and sports/hobbies definitely change when they suddenly become more popular than ever. Things (like clouds of black smoke) people might not have cared about as much in the past quickly become an issue when it's in their face on a daily/weekly basis. This isn't the first time I've heard the EPA is starting to talk about the diesel performance world in a not-so-positive light. I believe the EPA has the power and motivation to affect us all, aftermarket or not. Just look how they recently changed ALL of our fuel to ULSD and demanded new emissions equipment for the newer trucks. How long do you think it will be before they start Federal emissions testing for those newer diesels to make sure they continue to conform? If that ever happened, our pre-emissions trucks could easily be subject to testing also.

Really not trying to offend anyone here, but IMO billowing black smoke on a near stock truck is the new diesel equivalent of a 17 second ricer with a 6" exhaust tip.

You have a point about the new emissions equipment and mileage, but we're not here to discuss global warming and politics. This is your 2nd post today with the same political rant. If you want to talk politics go to a site designed for that purpose.

If that's how you feel then do something about it! Complaining here surely won't help your cause.

Amen, brother. I like the idea of being able to full throttle launch my diesel truck without everyone else behind me inhaling the evidence.
