with no check ball oil will stay cooler?
Waiting for the reverse, is not something i really like, but whats the difference in having a check ball and not having one?

Not sure? I avoid all discussions that center around pressure vs flow! .
I have tripped over my feet too many times when trying to discuss the relationship between the two.
In a built tranny they obviously set pressures where they want them. On a factory tranny....??

System pressure are determined by the PR valve in the trans. Cooler output pressures are determined by the switch and shuttle valve. Lockup runs full line pressure to the cooler, non lockup only a portion is routed to the cooler.
The check ball increase restriction and reduces flow, does not influence pressure at all as that is determine by the trans.
The check ball tends to cause temp spikes in fluid coupling by restricitng the partial pressure flow when used with a tighter TC. Its also a trash collector and any problems with TC clutch lining ends up in it first. When you fix the VB so it charges the TC in park, you really negate the need for the check ball.
