Building a Solid 2500 Towing Machine ?
I currently have a stock 2500. I have EGT, Boost, Trans Temp guages installed. I am thinking about the following:
NADP Heavy Hauler (or equiv)
Smarty CR POD
AE Stage 2 Pro Guard 7
Glacier Diesel 392 kit and F/W 2 micron filters
Are there any other things i should be thinking about with this kind of combo ? I am looking to pull 18000 lbs max on a freq summer basisand 10000 in the winter. I currently pull 16,500 now on the stock tranny. Looking for good steps/ideas/concerns etc. I want solid reliability with a little power gain (not a ton)
PS. Can someone chime in with regards to want kind of trans temps they are seeing stock as well as with a built tranny pulling heavier loads in the 14000-18000 lb range ?
Thanks

If you don't want or need big power, you could settle for a Smarty jr. Personally, I don't see the need for the POD.
The AFE stage 2 is a nice have, but not really necessary.
I MOST DEFINATELY THINK YOU NEED 2 MICRON FILTRATION....stock or not. We all need it on our common rail trucks, imo. The GDP kit is as good as any and better than most.
You probably should consider a torque converter/valve body upgrade on your trans. The TC will really help put the power to the ground. If you want to up your power, you may need more trans upgrades. (oops....now I noticed the NADP on your list) Im sure that would be nice...maybe more than you need.
I'd also consider some rear air bags, hellwig rear sway bar, (heavier receiver hitch if you tow from it), and an exhaust brake and onboard air.
Perhaps too...some 19.5 Rickson wheels with 'G' rated tires.

Mine definately has more turbo whistle with the AFE Stg 2. Sometimes it sounds like a jet engine, imo. Louder than stock...not annoying loud anyway....to me. The engine and radio can drown it out.

Now that BD towing twins are somewhat out of vogue....
Either pick up a used set of those, or opt for the stock over s400 kit. Twins make towing so much nicer. Once done you never go back to a single.
I also agree a smarty jr is all you need.

that glacier pump is discontinued as far as i know, you might want to consider a air dog, or a fass system, a little more money but well worth it, Richard sells them too at Glacier, or on the dtr store.

I was wondering why i couldn't find them. Whats the deal with glacier not having their kits ? Airdog and Fass better or more popular ?
I would love to have twins one day ! Do you get a lot of black from a twin setup ?

I love my Walbro. If you do put in a new pump definitely go for the Liberty canister and put the return into the canister. If I do it over I'll go that way. I can get down past 1/8th of a tank before seeing any problems though. Great minds hadn't really experienced the draw straw problem when I bought mine and hadn't come up with the solution yet.

I talked with Richard at Glacier today and he seemed to be very helpful. I guess he no longer sells/stocks the Walbro kit (distributor issues). I talked to him about the Vulcan draw straw V HF with an Airdog 150, 1/8 T for pressure, and a block off plate for the stock cannister. Does anyone have experience with the Vulcan line ? I also talked with HDR and they have a kit as well without cannister. I guess for both the Vulcan and the HDR i just use my stock cannister. Can anyone point out any issues with this setup. I get 1/2 line all the way to the CP3. Not super well informed about the Air Dog, only what i have found at DTR.
Also can someone elaborate on the filter specs with the crossed over Fleetgaurd numbers for Airdog. Are they 2, 3, 5 micron ??
