Building s300

I was looking at a website that will build a s300 to your needs.. Are s300 turbos any good? I plan on one day building a set of twins. What turbo would do good under a s300? Heres the website I was looking at the s300. I am going to do a 62mm compressor wheel. What else should I choose to make the best turbo for now and a set of twins later? Im guess something close to a htt 62/71-13 right?

A s300 is a model of turbo, and there are many different variants of it. They are great turbos when used for the right purpose, I am not a fan of any 66mm s300, I think the shaft is too weak to support wheels that size for a long time but a 62 and 64 would be a good turbo.

What size are you looking for?

Im looking to get a 62mm built. Im not a big turbo guru but I do know a little about them. I am wanting to get a s300 that would be closest to a htt 62-71-13 because Im going to be building a set of twins down the road sometime. If you take a look at there site you can see they have options to choose from they say.. Any ideas?

Well I called and talked to the guy that actually builds the s300 at that shop. He seems to really know his stuff! I was telling him what I have now and what my future plans are. Which are to run Smarty/tst stack, 100-130hp injectors, aftermarket cp3 and maybe a little nitrous if heavy fueling. He told me If I planned on doing a set of twins soon then he would recommend him building me a s300 that is 62-65-13ss. He said will will spools the turbos up quicker and is still big enough that with injectors and properly tuned it will make over 700hp with twins. What yall think? What kind of egt difference would there be say with a 62-65 over a s400 compared to a 62-71 over a s400? Power difference to? To small to really worry about?

I would just get a 14 iron housing... better flow, less cost. I would say that there probably won't be enough EGT difference to worry about, especially if you're planning twins in the not too distant future

A Phat Shaft 62 is a 62/65/14. Yeah it isnt as cool looking as a stainless housing but it will make more power in a twin setup, and cost hundreds less.

I think the reason that so many people are runin the SS HTT turbos is because the wastegates are huge and that means no need for an external gate on you top turbo.

but a regular schwitzer dual gate housing will flow a pretty substantial amount... plenty enough for a decent set of twins

You can buy a PS62 cheaper than $1400. You can make more power becuase it will flow more air through the larger housing.

Agreed, but I THINK that is why a lot of guys are goin with the SS housing, for the larger wastegates. I think they are dual 1".

I think I decided on a s300 with 62/65/13 SS housing. Im putting it over a s400, not sure which one yet. Is it best for me to put a External WG in the hotpipe? Do you gate the s400? Any blow offs needed?

One thing that most dont know or think about is the delta egt on a ss13 is only 100 degs diff, on cast iron its 300 + in a compound setup the more heat to drive that s-400 the better ,also the gate flow helps the drive press #s so you dont need a external gate unless your going for 1000 hp whit nos that adds more cost to your setup and one more thing to tune . You can make well up into the high 800s hp and be fine with a ss housing , just one more thing to think about
