Your missing my mailing address so you can send it my way, I am need of another one in a bad why (I think Im getting to old and dont like the way it sounds driving threw the hill country or pulling a trailer)
No really if you just bought the 4040xl your not missing anything but you will need to find a piece of 4 inch pipe to fill the gap left once you cut off the stock muffler. I had an extra piece laying around and welded it up in the garage but any muffler shop should have the pieces and beable to do it for you.

Wow,thanx for the quick and good answers.I didnt realize I needed to get an extension of 4",also I wondered about the offset of the old muffler vs a straight through design, does the tail pipe just sit up a little bit?thanx again.

I just swung by the muff shop, they said the only way they would do it is to use two 45 degree angles to compensate for the factory offset,is this neccesary?its just a few more restictive kinks.

HAHA dosent everyone. I installed this muffler within 2 weeks of getting my truck so it was all still new plus I think it rained that day or something.
The offset really didnt bother me we just welded it in no 45s or anything, you can kind of see by the pic that it angles up. Olny problem was a little bit biger of a hole to weld on the bottom but 3+ years and only had one problem, but that wasnt related to any of my welds. The muffler acually craked in half where the sleve meets the muffler. 15 mins at the muffler shop and a little diesel BSing I got it fixed for free.

The OEM exhaust pipe in front of the stock muffler was 400 series stainless (the pipe behind it was aluminized steel), so there was plenty of raw material to do the deed.
Sounds great - works even better!

On a CTD that isn't subject to EPA regulations (or any similiar Canuck agencies ), you can thoroughly clean out the cat - then it won't be able to restrict flow from soot deposits due to heavy fueling, and the SS shell makes for an effective resonator.

put your location in your data.
i have about a 12 inch peice of 4 inch, where i put a muffler in my 04 straight pipe.
with straight peice instead of the bends, just be aware where the tip of the exhaust outlet pipe is.
mine ended up being slightly under the edge of the rear fender, and resonated horribly. a nice 6 inch long tip fixed that.
