Bottom feed fuel line?

Posted a few days ago re. install of a DrawStraw and the subsequent fluctuation in fuel pressure below 1/4 tank. Did some digging, and found a few posts that suggest mounting the pump feed line in the bottom of the tank to minimize/stop this. And now I can't find the thread...
Anyway, just wanted to see if anyone has any thoughts, good and bad, about this idea. Seems like a quality bulkhead fitting with a low profile 90 degree barb fitting would work, and not be in danger of damage unless in serious off-road conditions - but I'd like to get some feedback before I drop the tank and put yet another hole in it. Thoughts?

That's the last thing I would consider... I wouldn't even consider it. First of all, the obvious possibility of leaks. Second, the bulkhead fitting will draw from a certain point above the bottom of the tank anyway, possibly higher than your draw straw now. My setup does the same thing. The only way to rectify the situation is to drop the tank and add a flexible draw tube that would extend all the way into the sump. I'm going to do it someday, but I've been living with it this way for over a year and I don't really want to drop my tank just yet...

I've been having fluctuations in fuel pressure under a 1/4 tank also. Seems like when I fill the fuel tank it stops.

Also I've wondered about a bottom feed fuel line. Seems like it would increase fuel pressure. Only danger would be 4 wheeling.

I thought the sump will "run out" of fuel if the stock LP isnt sucking it into the "cup" in the sump/pickup assembly? Doesnt the pump draw the fuel into the sump, then to the lines, so without that LP in the sump it wont stay full of fuel?

It would be a great solution for the added pickup hose moving around, or having problems with lower fuel levels...

That or maybe it would be easier to grab a 03/04 pickup assembly as use it instead?

All good points - thanks. I have considered the flexible line into the sump, but thought, like Stacked 97, that the OEM pump must be running to fill the sump. Anyone know for sure?
Normally just doing a refuel at 1/4 tank is not an issue, but I do a lot of highway travel, and there have been times when I have run 'er down to "idiot light" level due to lack of availability of clean fuel.
Any other solutions out there? BTW, not sure if I mentioned it, but my rig has the in-tank pump "upgrade", so I don't have the original tank sending unit assembly.
