The blue smoke at start up thing...should I be concerned...
I've owned this truck almost 3 years now and never had blue smoke and a slight stumbling in the idle.
I've had a couple mornings in the previous 3 years when its really cold out with white smoke...but never blue.
I put in new F1 injectors over the weekend and now 4 days straight when I start the truck after it has sat for 10 or so hours I burn blue. It goes away within 1/2 mile of driving or 5 minutes of simply idling on the driveway.
I've done the search engine thing and see a ton of threads and opinions on this but they always seem to end up in an arguement something along the lines of: it is a cracked injector check your oil level, its a stuck open injector, it is not an injector, it is normal, you need to change your fuel filter, you need to add some additives etc...there appears to be many opinions on this symptom. I have brand new injectors so I feel relatively certain I can rule them out. I have changed the oil twice in the last 4 days and I do not have any diesel in it.
So my first question is pretty straight forward, those of you that have put new injectors in your truck, did you have a period of time when you burned blue at start up during what someone might call a break in period?
My second question is those on the forum who have reported blue smoke at start up and a rough idle that went away a few minutes after starting, did you follow any of the advise dolled out and did it work? For example...Saturday I'm going to change my fuel filter and will see if it works. If it still blows blue then I am going to take the valve cover off and check the torque on my exhaust arms and on the injector hold downs the following day. If it continues then I figure I will start putting additives in (which I've never used for 80k miles). If it still continues after that......

I would be calling the vendor you got your injectors from and talk to them. They can get a hold of Don and help you out. Immediately after install you will get smoke and a ruff idle while things are burning off, but after a good long test drive you should be fine.
If you had huge injectors, big pumps, advanced timing I could see having some blue smoke at start up, but not with your set up. I would think something is off. What's wrong, lets let the experts determine.

We have done several injector installs and always see white smoke for first 45 seconds or so then it starts to blue out as it gets warm then eventually after a few minutes back to normal no more then 10 minutes tops. Are you making any oil? I did last year do an install one of the o-rings failed and the truck wouldnt white or blue smoke ran like normal was just making oil. I would recomend taking it to a dealership and paying a diagnostic fee to get them to put an obd II on it and cutout test each cylinder this will let you know what injector is giving you problems.

blue smoke means oil. When cranking in the morning it is normal to see a little white smoke ( it even says it in the manual ) A little light blue could be normal too for an aged truck.
It's likely that your rings are going out and oil is slipping past them and burning in the combustion.
A compression test may be needed.

I have a ODBII scan tool. I don't have any codes tripped on the truck right now. What is a cutout test?
The oil level has not increased and I have a 62 miles (one way) commute...so I have about 300 miles on the new injectors now.
I plan on talking to the shop later today but wanted to start a thread on the issue too.

You should be able to find the injector kill test function in the scanner somewhere and with the truck running kill each injector one by one and the one that doesn't affect the way the truck is idling or the one that changes fells different when you kill it the all the others do are the one(s) that are bad.

I've come to the conclusion that I just don't understand modern engines. I think I like working on my old Cleveland Stroker better.
I haven't done a thing yet...I drove home last and on some parts of the drive was what some might call 'aggressive'.
Started the truck this morning...no blue and no burning oil odor like the previous days. Just a little white since it was 34 degrees out like its always done when starting cold.

I recall these injectors! I went back and looked at the test results. They were fine. I dont think you have anything to worry about.
Yes, cold weather white smoke starts are experienced by many people with the 04.5 and up engines. Dodge had a reflash for this and it helps some trucks and some it doesnt.
Try using no pressure box and see if it helps. Somehow I dont think it will, but it is worth a shot. I dont know how much if any the SP box adds at low engine speeds.
