Biggest Tires On Dually??

Whats the largest tire you can run on a 2005 Dually QC without a spacer in the back? I want a more aggressive tire, slightly larger tire but dont really want to run a spacer but I do like the look of 35s on a dually. Any tire recommendations such as size or brand would be appreciated. Pics are good too. THank

I have Cooper S/T's 265 70 17 on the back and they have 1/4inch clearance. I have a Toyo Open Country A/T 265 on the front and I could probably fit a 285 70 17 of this tire with about 3/8 inch of clearance on the back. It totally depends on the overall width of the tire which varies alot from tire to tire. You don't want to have to run 80psi in an aggressive tire just to get them to fit as they will wear quickly and scallop and ride like crap. I run 60psi in the front and 45 to 50psi in the rears and they are wearing perfect. I have over 60k miles on the rears and I had tons of power and drag raced them all summer...they are lasting way to long and they still have tons of life left in them....maybe another 30k at least. ks

I have Pro-comp A/T 265/70/17's on mine. I run 75lbs up front and 45lbs in the rear. I've got at least 1/4 clearance between the duals unloaded but anything over 2000lbs of payload and they rub. I do have a set of 8mm spacers but they are just enough to push the outside rim off the centering shoulder and so a perfect balance is questionable. I only used the spacer for a few months because of this. I'd recommend running a higher pressure or sticking to a narrower tire if you do plan to carry much weight.

I've been drooling over BFG's but even the BFG 265's look wider than my Pro-Comps and I'd have to run that spacer.

no the 35's will fit in front without the leveling kit. but theres no way you'll be able to 35's on there without spacers in the back

Ok looks like im leaning toward 35s with a spacer for the rear and possibly a level kit for the front. How much rub can i expect up front without a level kit. Wont be doing any off road stuff just the occasional curb to jump . Thanks

Why would tires with full pressure wear like crap. I can see how they would ride rough, but it seems like tires with less pressure would have a larger contact patch and thus cause more rubbing, and more wear?

When you run a tire at 80 psi, which is the typical rated psi of the offered OEM tires, on the rear of a pickup, you end up with the centers wearing out very fast from the lack of weight to press the tires flat to the ground. This effect is even worse with a DRW because the weight of the rear end is spread over 4 tires instead of 2. Hence, this is why you can run the rear tires on a dually at around 45 PSI each, instead of maybe 65 in the rears on a SRW, so the tire's will still wear even. At the moment I need to change the PSI in my rear's on my 06 from 55 down to about 45. The tires have been wearing good for the first 35k miles at 55 psi, but I have recently noticed that the rears are starting to wear more in the center, so that necessitates a change. On the 92' I used to run the rears at 80 psi, but ran into this problem, so now I run the rears at 65 and haven't really had an issue. On the front of our trucks I run the tires at 80 psi though because the sheer weight of the engine has no problem making the tire press completely flat to the pavement.
