Bigger single Turbo or Twin Turbo

Seems like the cheapest Twin Turbo is Relentless turbo for $2850 while getting a bigger SINGLE turbo is about $1500. So which should I go for? I am looking for somthing that will win street races, be awesome on the highway and still be able to do good at the strip. Another words, a setup thats good for a little bit of everything. Mainly street and highway races tho. So what do you guys think is good for me. I would also be using a TST chip with it as well. Also, when getting a single turbo, can I just swap the turbo or are there any supporting mods that need to go along with it?

Plus there's always more money to be spent on putting a setup like that on your truck. You will at least also need a new intake setup and exhaust manifold. I didn't want to deal with it so I just got my HTB2 and I'm happy. It put me right at 500hp which is exactly what I was shooting for...

Twins are cool though....

I have an II SPS66 and am satisfied with my setup for now. It is not a good configuration for any heavy towing, but I don't tow heavy so it is ok for me.

I would recommend twins. There are a lot of options now for twins and most seem pretty well matched. Twins were always in my plans, unfortunately disposal cash dried up. From what I see and hear from guys, a good twins setup is just better for any driving conditions than a single setup. Just much easier to turn up the HP with twins than a single.

If you really want to put the power to the ground, you should build your trans first.
I'm in the same boat as you guys. Sure, I want twins, but money is an issue. I have it, just don't like wasting it. I don't mind spending, but I want to be more than happy with the outcome. On another thread, I was asking about larger singles, and from the replies, it looks like I WOULD NOT BE HAPPY with the lag on the street. I like responsiveness... not LAG. Guess I'm voting for twins...
Or maybe I'll just be happy with what I've got... and use the money for something more responsible, like another apartment building...

Im not into racing on the street or strip like most of you by the way it sounds, but I would like a turbo that would work for heavy pulling. I want to be able to hook on to a loaded trailer of hay or cattle and not lose 10 mph on long hills. Another brilliant idea that OK had was putting toll booths at the bottom of long, tall hills (well, big hills for around here). Once you slow to 30 to run though the pike pass lane, I have to leave it in 4th or so just to get up the dang hill. Usually I haul from #12,000 to #20,000 depending on which trailer I'm pulling. Is there a turbo that will just pull like the dickens? I can't get this factory Holset to spin up after shifting half the time, escpecially after I put 285's on my rims. Can pull in 6th gear...period.

Can someone offer a turbo that can do this? I want a short lag and lots of power, is that possible in one box?

I guess I'd have to vote for a single, just due to the fact of the cost. But which one? That is my problem.

New intake and exhaust manifold, how much would that cost? I mean, can you still a nice single turbo that is very similiar to a TT setup? Another words, one that can handle the power at TT and one that wont lag but will still have good power? HTB2 Turbo I would be the best single turbo for my needs, true?

I have the 66 and I pull 10,000 up some really steep long climbs and never even think about shifting out of 6. Now I do pull up to 20,000 but I haven't yet I am waiting to get my clutch. Also I am goin to do Twins some day and I am going to use my 66 as my first turbo.

ditto on what AK Ram said-

I went stock -> HTB2 62/12 -> HTB2/ 62/14 -> SPS 66 -> SPS 62 -> BD twins.

Couldn't be any more happier now! No lag in town from a light, minimal-to-no-smoke taking off from a stop, towing mileage went up, towing EGT went down, tires have traction issues now when towing, coolest sounding straight pipe sound that turns heads and makes people jump in surprise,...

(I was hoping <-- that was the beer drinking smilie)

If'n you can foot the entry fee, twins are the ticket. The "new" breed of singles are great, and I had to do some serious thinking along the same lines as this when deciding what direction to head.

Good luck!
