Honestly, I don't buy my oil in one gallon jugs. I order it in 55gal drums (DELO 400), of course that is for shop use.

Pour 3 gallons(12 quarts!) in, don't worry about it anymore. That is what the 5.9 is supposed to hold. If you are doing the add-a-little and check the dipstick game, you are wasting time...

well MY TRUCK says 13 quarts and thats exactly how much it takes WITH filter, if I dont put in the last Quart(13) it shows 1 quart LOW every oil change.
not everyone has the exact same thing. see just cuz one guy does it dont mean its right for you.

Mine takes 13, That's just how it is. Just like dodgemnleavem said, not all trucks are made the same (along the same lines of why some peoples stock tranny lasts longer than others). 12 quarts will barely touch the dipstick. So I add the extra qt. Kinda seems stupid to skimp out on the extra quart, especially since engine oil is probably one of the most important things to keep these motors running!!
