My truck smokes when in stock setting put the TST on 1/1 and it is almost gone.
I take the Smarty off when towing to much smoke when shifting for my likes. Even on 3 it will smoke hard (I have it on mild tq managment). Just run the TST when towing D
One more reason for not running the smarty while towing is you don't have to worry about the egts getting to high because you can set your egt limits.

Oddly, I have MUCH less smoke on #8 than on 3-7.
The timing added #'s kinda scare me, it rattles too much for my liking all the way up until about 2K RPMS. That added with the DD clutch rattle from 1300-1700.......
I think I like #8 the best overall so far. Much more controllable smoke, still plenty of power.

D. Wiggs,
When I tow my 14,000 pounds 5th wheel I ran the beta smarty on #3, I had plenty of power too pul 7-8% grades without slowing, and the only time she smoked is when I asked her too!!!!

I have to think 8 is going to leave you pretty hot, maybe not with the twins though.......
There is no doubt that on my truck, the even numbers are FAR less smoky, I haven't towed over #3, but I was fogging people out from time to time on hills and taking off at that setting too.......
I might try #2 this Friday for our camping trip.

D.Wiggs, I dont have a 3rd Gen but I have dual 6" mitre Stacks. When I am moving at 50 and floor it, all the smoke goes to the middle of the bed and get sucked out the back right above the bed. I towed a trailer last weekend and it was neat to look in the mirror and watch the air flowing around the front of the trailer. I noticed I had bad aerodynamics on the trailer
My suggestion, get either 4 footers which look ugly on some trucks or go with a side dump. If you do get stacks, try turn-outs. that way you can aim them to the sides of the trailer vs trying to get the exhaust to go straight up.
Jon
PS, look at my avatar closely. I am moving at about 30 at that point.

I dunno about oomph D, but i easily pulled 7-8% grades @ 75 with the cruise on, EGTès only hit 1150 with my little 62, and I had alot of bewildered looks by guys with dodges, chevyès, and fords when they could only muster 45-50, and I was rockin and rollin @ 75. Plus I could easily pass ppl. 6th gear 75 mph 2000 rpmès to 100 mph in 14 seconds.....not too shabby for having 14,000 hooked up!!
