best fuel economy towing programer?

Here is what I am thinking.
Install tow programer, maybe intake, exhaust and gauges. Any body have any advise on which programer is best for heavy towing and better mpg? My mechanic buddy recommends changing to an aftermarket torque converter. Any thoughts?

No doubt that our trucks "NEED" a tighter TQ the stock one is just too loose for our trucks. In my opinion that should be the first change if you don't mind your warrenty being shot in butt! That is one mod that you just can't take off before you go in for service, stinks huh?

Well, not to quote a thread and point fingers, but if you want to beleive it (I don't ) throw some 22.5" rims/tires on there and you will get 25% better fuel economy

Best Programer is your right foot. I hear all kinds of mpg on here but the real truth is how hard you run the truck. As far as the TQ it helps and warrenty being shot hard to see it when its not in sight plus the trans runs cooler with it and when you are towing most of the time its locked up anyway so the fuel mpg dont help all that much with having a tight TQ but sure is fun when you are not towing

Why would you call anybody that could be connected to Chrysler to help you with your truck for a driveline related problem if you had changed to an aftermarket TC?

I tow 75% of the time and my TC isn't locked most of the time. Even in Tow Haul mode it is unlocked under accelaration from dead stop. I must live in the wrong part of the country we have stop lights and stop signs in fact I have traveled the Eastern half of the US and this is the case.

most of my towing is done on the highway not into to stop lights to much. I am 1.5 miles to the inertstate but if you did tow in town alot the T.C. would help. my tow/haul locks in 3rd and for dam sure if you know it is a drive train problem I would try and find a Diesel shop in the area to fix it before calling Dodge because they may want to look deeper. When you do the trans you pretty much have to take care of it yourself pretty hard to get Dodge to fix something you should of made better. I can tell you one better friend had problem with his trans had a DTT T.C. took it in because he smoked the clutches out of high gear (told him to fix it him self) they fixed it he drove off said feels like the T.C. was lose gets under the truck guess what had a stock one in its place. Now this takes brass ***** goes back to the dealer and says that they took his T.C. raising caine about it they laughed and said here it is and by the way go in and pay this 3600.00 bill I think he left the T.C. and dident have to pay the bill

Yup, the converter will definitely help BUT getting back to the original question, the Quadzilla tow box is pretty popular and fairly inexpensive too. There's one selling in the classifieds right now and it's brand new. Not sure if it works on the 06 though...

There are some members that have posted good gains with the TST...I'm not one of them, my right foot is too heavy. I have seen somewhere by someone that runs cross country and has found the TST to deliver some good numbers by cranking up the torque side, maybe the person will read this and chime in. I'm thinking "abc4yew" but I may be wrong.

Running Empty I spend most of my time on 1/0 with the adjustable timing on my TST set to Auto 18 degrees. If I drive 60mph I get 20 mpg and I'm a big fat dually. Towing I get best with 4/4 and yes I'm running the twins program. The twins program on 12 degrees timing gave me worse mileage than the regular with std. timing. The best for mileage would definitely be the standard tst with adj timing set to 18 degrees. The torque converter with lock up at 35mph gives me the best. I am just about to go twins so I didn't spend any money on an intake...just the 4inch hole in the bottom of the airbox and a clean stock filter. TE settings high give the power to tow but it kills the empty mileage but is necessary for play. ks

What is all this about adjustable timing on the R49 TST? Is this something different from the standard TST R49? See it never fails, everytime I say I'm done something else comes up .

Yep, I just got it 3 weeks ago or so and it was pretty new for actual upgrade. It is awesome especially for mileage and stacking...Best $50 ever....except for those ten Guiness that time......oh I'm digressing. ks

Figured it out, I only have the R47 control panel, not the newer R49... wonder if it's upgradeable or a whole new system? Anybody have any clue's?
