There are alot of choices on HP boxes out there I have personally have run the TS performance ramifier and the quadzilla race box.I have been very happy with both.I would also upgrade your air intake and get some gauges if you are going to run a HP box.coobie

Shorty,

What are you wanting out of the chip? (tow, mpg, haul a**). There are quite a few out there that will do a great job but some are more suited for particular applications as opposed to others. Also, have you done anything else to your truck..eg, GAUGES, intake, exhaust? Believe me, you will get a whole bunch of opinions as to which one is best, just keep in mind as to what you will be needing the truck for.

I use my truck to pull a 22' gooseneck a tractor and a skid steer mower. I'm not sure how much it all weighs though. I have not done anything to my truck except put a flatbed on it.

Shortycattleman,

Let me be the first to suggest that the first thing you do if you want to put a box on your rig is get gauges. Also at least an intake. After that, I would guess that the Xzillaraider standard box might be where you want to start looking at. You can see in my sig. what I am running and I am pleased as all get out w/ it. But it does run a little over $500 for that. It seems that everyone running the Quad box is happy. Hope this helps.

Thanks DieselRaptor. I know to get gauges but have not heard of the intake being needed. Would it really be neccessary if i only used the 100 hp setting every once in a while?

I don't claim to be the all knowing expert. But the simple equation of fuel+air=horsepower leads me to believe that any box will perform better w/ a better intake than stock. I don't know if your year of truck has a 4" exhaust all the way or if it is like mine that crimped down to 3.5" in a few places. I will tell you that when I started Bombing I started w/ the exhaust, then put on the AfE, then added the gauges, and then the box.

ok, so is the intake just to get more horsepower or would it do harm to my truck i f i didn't have it? what does getting a new intake involve and do you know how much it would cost?

Speaking of boxes. I am new at this game also. Not sure what to search for on here.

So, what Brands are there so I can search here and the web? TST, Edge, Quadzilla, others?

What also are the difference of what they do? I hear some just change fuel, others do timing & fuel and so on. I would assume that is why some people stack?? because they would rather have a box to change just the timing and one to change fuel to allow them more possibilities then what ONE box (change fuel and timing) might do. That make sense?

Thanks. Out looking and see a lot of different things and just trying to tie it all together.

Shorty

Intakes are mostly just the Air filter and filter box. They run anywhere up to $ 400 for the really good ones. It just allows better air flow and air filtration into your motor. The stock filter box is somewhat restrictive. Works great for a stock truck. But like mentioned, more air+more fuel=MORE horsepower.

More air will also keep your EGT's down a little bit which is better for the truck.

I myself do not plan to BOMB really nutty like I did on my 1st gen truck (for now at least ) but do plan on replacing the stock air filter with a better flowing filter. This will at least give me some better flow but MOSTLY, better filtration.

A cheap way to get more air is to just get a hole saw and drill 3" holes in the bottom of the box, if your looking to save.

Exactly what Nutty wrote. I wouldn't put a box on my truck without getting it more air for EGT issues and also to get the most out of the box that I can. I bought the AfE stage 1 and ran it about 15k mikes and then bought the torque tube. I don't think the tube is all that great a buy or really made that big a difference. My buddy put an Airaid on his '05 w/ the Juice/Attitude and he seems real happy w/ it. And he paid a lot less for it than I did on my AfE.

NuttyMopar,

Thanks to AKRAM this is how the pup does its thing

Here is what the downloader does on each program to help you keep track:
Tow Program: 50hp from timing & duration
Performance Program: 60hp from timing & duration, 30hp from pressure
Extreme Program: 80hp from timing & duration, 50hp from pressure

Hope that helps. Also, D Leno has a great matrix on quite a few boxes and how they make their power.

PS, I dig your mower!

Duration/timing boxes:
TST powermaxcr - 150hp
Edge juice - 120hp

Duration only:
Van Aaken C3.2

Timing/pressure box:
Quad zilla - 100hp, 140hp - Standard,Race

Pressure boxes:
Edge EZ - 65ish hp
Ramifier - 70-80hp I think
Van Aaken - 40ish hp I think

Downloaders:
Bullydog - 130hp

The options, like opinions, are very many, So there are many stacking ideas--- like so:
Main thing is to try and not to cross the kind of box, get all three (duration, pressure-not too much though, and timing) in some way

TST/EZ - 300hp gain with right turbo - As proven with my truck
Quadzilla/VA C3.2 - should be an easy 200hp gain with turbo
Bullydog DL'er/Pressurebox - I think 200hp gain has been seen

PM me if you have any other ?'s - Its all just a big recipe, How much HP would you like??
