Best bang for buck on tuner??

Ok a buddy recently bought a 03 6spd and he would like a programmer. Whats the most bang for his buck, with and without gauges or monitoring options? I mentioned the smarty and he was interested in the edge. Could you please give some info so I can help him make a good choice. Thanks

Not just because I own one, but I really think Smarty is best bang for the buck and for these reasons: Most power of any downloader out there. If you don't need or can't use all the power a smarty can give right now, you can just run it on the lower settings until you can make mods to support the power. As Smarty comes up with new files or updates, you can download them free from the website. Many other mfgs. charge for that. You can download many custom tunes to fit what you are running on your truck from stock to heavily bombed. Getting the good downloader from the start means you are not spending more $ everytime you want to upgrade or get something more-- you already have it!

Does the smarty have any monitoring devices or gauges?

I does not have that. It does have: DTC code reader/clearer, speed limiter adjustment, speedometer adjustment (for different size tires), can return to stock and not leave a footprint for the dealer. Easiest thing for gauges is quad commander. Although I prefer my analog gauges.

Smarty rocks. It is very flexible. MADS has programs that run from mild to wild. I didnt care for the amount of smoke on the program that came with Smarty. No problem though, downloaded another program and the smoke is gone. However I can still lay a good puff down if I lug it.

You still need gauges first. I have the autometer dual gauge pod that fits over the steering column and run ISSPRO gauges. It was the first mod I ever made and I would suggest it always be the first mod. I have pics of my gauge setup in my profile.

I like the Edge Juice with Attitude!!!!

It makes excellent power, the Attitude display allows for up to 6 different "on the fly" adjustments and allows you to monitor about 16 different parameters.

It's great for quick power adjustment and an all-in-one chip/programmer!!!!!

My Diablo works great and has free downloads. I paid 320 but I've seen them for 300. Craig

On an 03 I'd say Smarty/EGT gauge or a Quad X2 and an EGT gauge. W/ both he will need supporting mods if he pushes their limits. The Smarty will produce more power, but w/ more damage if he's not careful. Stay away from banks and bullydogs on 03s, in my opinion after owning them. I here the Diablo Predator is good, but they lack any customer service(when you need them most). Just what I've learned and lived on this site for a few years.

I would go with the smarty, I like my edge because of the gauges and the being able to change the setting on the fly but when I had my smarty it was waaaaay better then the edge (power wise). I had the smarty on my 03 and 07, and the power was great, little to smoky on the 07 but just right on my 03, Just tell your buddy to get a boost and egt gauge then get the smarty. He wont be diapointed I guarantee it If he is some wil buy it from, I will be buying another one when they get the smokeing situation toned down a little for the 07's

I have had both the smarty and the diablo predator on my truck and for less than half of the price of the smarty I would pick up the diablo any day. I was just not impressed with the smarty.
