Bed caps vs. Over the rail spray-on?

I think I've decided on the Line-X spray-in liner. Now I have to decide whether to do the over-the-rail option.

What are the advantages to this vs. just buying a set of bed rail caps? I'm not interested in diamond-plate - just a plain ABS black cap. It seems to me it would be easier to replace the tape-on kind down the road if they get messed up. Then again, the Line-X is guaranteed, so I guess they'd redo it for free . . . decisions, decisions.

Anybody have the spray-on over-the-rail and love it? Anybody regret it?

Thanks,
Neil

I have 1 of each and I like either way. When I get my '02 bed sprayed I am going to take off the caps and spray it then put them back on therefore no rubbing the paint off

I have the Line-X over the rail with a bed cap.
I love the combination.
I use the RV sealing tape from the auto parts store and just pull the old off & retape when I pull the cap on and off.
The Line-X makes it easy 'cuz I can use a scrub pad to remove all the old residue without worring about scratching the paint.
And if some of the tape works its way out, I don't have to worry about the cap rubbing the paint off either.

I have over the rail Speedliner, I like it bunches. However, I opted for the roughest texture, a bed cap would not seal on my rails. (See Member's pics) I have a friend who has ABS caps with tape and luvs them but looking down the rail you can tell they're not as straight as they once were, warped a little so he has a slight rise in area where there's no tape. I have Line-X over the rails too. They really hold up to abuse..sliding wood, lifting atvs into the bed etc.

I wrestled with this same question when getting mine done - In the end I just got them to spray over-the-rail and I tell you I dont regret it one bit, provides a lot of protection

go wit the Over-The-Rail it's just awsome. In the long run it will help with the resale value if you get rid of it. Beside I think it looks much better

I toiled with this decision too. I went with over the rail and it looks awsome. VERY glad I went that way instead of under.

I can't count on one hand how many times I have said, DOH!!! that would have really scratched the paint.

THANKS ALL! Over the rail IT IS!

As soon as the hitch goes in (both the Line-X guy and the Pullrite folks said hitch before liner), the liner goes on.

Thanks again,
Neil

I am going to get some pics up soon but, I installed a Turn-Over-Ball Hitch in the bed and then had the Line-X liner sprayed in - it looks like it was built in like that from the factory - extremely trick!!!! Good luck with yours!!

Hmmm....I thought it went: Liner and THEN hitch. That's what I'll be doing. Hope it's OK.

I'm putting in a Pullrite SuperGlide 5er hitch. Pullrite says to spray the liner after the hitch install. In this case, all that's left in the bed after the install is a couple of holes as the brackets, etc. are all underbed or removable. So, spraying after installation ensures that the exposed metal from drilling the holes get treated. Other types of hitches where rails remain in the truck (like my old Reese) would likely be the opposite (spray first).

I vote for over the rail. My rhino liner was installed perfectly and helps seal my leer cap.

Realizing prices vary, roughly what is the price of an over the rail spray in liner for a long bed ?....
