There are fins at the bottom of my AFE 2 that allow for air to be drawn in from there as well. If I had to do it again, I think I would keep the stock air box and install a decent torque tube, then plumb a downpipe from the airbox for cooler more dense air.
It would save me from cleaning my filter so often, from sucking dirty air from under the hood.

I have the aFe stage2 kit and didnt like the way it turned away from the open area in rad support and the fins so I pulled out the plazma cutter and mig and got to work. Sorry for the crappy cell phone pics but a pic is a pic.

Kowalski, that rocks. That is way better than mine. It appears you have many more fun toys to play with and free time to play. I hope when I grow up, or at least when my kids grow up I'll be able to do something similar. For now, this is what I have.

When I bought my truck the original box had holes cut in the front and bottom. I installed a BHAF for a week or so then got it soaked with mud. I reinstalled the stock box and after reading this think I'll stick with it and build up some sort of fresh air scoop thing like yall have done.
Kowlaski, that's some nice work man!

I think this is the part I got from my local home store to put in the bottom. It was less expensive than the standard closet flange some have used, and it looked better to me. I just hacked off 1 end of it. That is the only bad part, I did a poor hack job.

I made something a little different than just a scoop. I bought a fan off of Ebay from one of the NASCAR sellers. It's used to get fresh air into the drivers compartment and also for brake cooling. I mounted it below my air filter and plumbed it with some 3" pvc down and 90ed just below the front air dam facing forward and used stainless screen to stop debris. I wired it to a relay with a switch inside. It moves some serious air (200cfm). Have no way of accurately measuring temperature difference. I think it cost me around $20 total and a few hours work.

Guy's, I like what I see, the home made intake tubes should help in adding cold air to a stock air filter box, been thinking of making one also. But my biggest concern would be it sucking up snow and rain. Do you close them off for the winter?
