Average EGT readings for 'round-the-town driving

I have an '06 CDT, the Bully Dog Triple Dog downloader, and a set of A-Pillar gauges (Boost, EGT, and Tranny Temp). Regardless of the BDTD setting (Tow, Performance, Extreme), my EGTs seem to hover around 350-400 on normal around-the-town driving. Even if I lay into the throttle, I only get around 450-475 max.

Does this sound correct? Both the BDTD monitor and my EGT gauge says the same thing so I know the readings are correct. However, they both use the same EGT probe in the exhaust manifold (at the top of the manifold before the turbo).

I hear of others who have EGTs in excess of 1000* - mine are much less. I am just concerned if my EGT probe is miscalibrated...

Thanks for any feedback...

that seems aweful low. i have to let mine sit for a little bit so itll be around 300ish before i shut it down never even close to that driving around. even crusing at 60 on the freeway, its about 600-650. i would definately consider getting it checked out

oh yeah. when i had my SC, i could hit 1350ish when i layed into it. hopefully this helps

I think a pyro works of an elcetrical signal, that signal may be getting split between the two gauges not giving you a accurate reading?

No i think something else is wrong cause I have my Autometer and Snow/watermeth Stage 3 reading off the same one and my TST PMCR reading off of its own, and they all three read the same EGTs. But my EGTs are or close to these other guys, around 600-800 around town.

I think you have something wrong also. My EGTs like above are 550-850 city driving and will hit 1000+* on hard acceleration. In gear at a light usually around 400-500*.

I have two pyros mounted pre-turbo. One Autometer and one for TST. The readings are pretty much the same on both.

Definitely wrong. I have much the same setup and my readings are much higher post turbo than yours are pre turbo.

I agree. There is something wrong.

I get 500-700 just driving around town. Climbing steep grades I hit 900-1100.

Your probe is pre turbo , correct? Those sound like post turbo.

Probe is pre-turbo. But, I may have found the real problem. I removed the probe from the exhaust manifold and found the probe end to be recessed inside the NTP fitting. I have another probe that came with my BDDL. That probe is about 2.5in long, and most of it is exposed directly into the manifold. I purchased PN R658SHT-8F-PL with the Weather Pack Connector from DieselManor - here.

Looking back on that web site, I see the problem. According to the picture, the probe extends out of the coupler. Mine is recessed in the coupler. Guess I will be calling Diesel Manor Monday morning to exchange this part for a good part.

Thanks to all who replied - your comments have been invaluable!

Couldnt you just swap it out for probe that came with the outlook?

Yes I could as a test. But, my A-Pillar gauges have the weather pack coupler on the end and the outlook probe has eye-hook connectors. I like the weather pack connectors - they look better and seem like they will handle the under-the-hood conditions better.
