ATS Stage III installed, almost...
Well, I had the ATS Triple Lock convertor, racing valve body, and a deep dish tranny pan from DPPI installed today. The shop would not touch the Commander, as far as installing it. So, I am almost Stage III.
I ordered the ATS stuff last week, had it all in 4 days, UPS ground to MI. I found a local tranny shop to do the install. Install ran $700.00 even. The shop had it over night, probably took around 6-8 hours to complete. Yea, I could have probably paid less elsewhere, but I felt confident with the guys doing the install. That is worth a couple hundred bucks right there.
Now, performance wise. This is by far the best mod/bomb to date. This is truly seat of the pants fun! The truck is definately quicker off the line, and the shifting is SOLID! The grocery getter tranny is history! On the highway, passing is instantaneous, the power/tourqe is right there.
There is just a split second of pause when you really get on her. I would say 90-95% power to the rear wheels, which is fine by me. I would say I was around 55-65% power with the stock tranny at launch and rolling.
If you have an auto, and the money, I would highly recommend upgrading the tranny. ATS, Suncoast, DTT, whatever. This should be the first BIG item on your list performance wise.

Congratulations on the purchase of your ATS Tranny!
I have the ATS TripleLok Stage IV and Stage V in both my
1996 Dodge CTD 12 valve and my newer 2002 Dodge
CTD 24 valve and am VERY HAPPY with both of them!!
The ATS transmission in my 1996 Dodge CTD now has
over 80,000 trouble free miles on it and the unit in my
2002 24 valve has almost 50,000 troublefree miles!
Both trucks are at or above 500 H.P. and I run them
both extremely hard!
ATS is a great company to deal with and they stand
behind their products with an industry best 3 year/
100,000 mile warranty! My dealer and installer
(Brian Koester @ Scheid Diesel) has always done
an excellent job for me!!
Glad to hear you are happy with your ATS tranny too!

the annoying belt squeal is gone because you've added so much flywheel weight( i think around 10-15lbs more than stock),that the engine cant stop as quickly, therefore the accesorys can stop with the engine, since it winds down slower now after you shut it down.

Thanks to both of you! I actually kinda miss the sqreaching when shutting down, got used to it! I was kinda worried at first, thought something was wrong!:eek Then I pondered it awhile, and figured the added weight of the TC, as you said, was the cause.
As far as the tranny, what a difference! As I said above, if you are going to start pouring money into one these CTD's, and have an auto, start there. I have no real preference over manufactureres, I went with ATS mainly because they were the first to take time to talk with me. That is how I work, if you spend some time with me, I will "usually" spend my money with you.
