ATS CO-PILOT: Installed it, not sure what what setting to use.

Installed the ATS Co-pilot. I can change lock up at different speeds. Right now it is set for 40 MPH.

Why would I set it at a lower or higher speed? Actually, why even have a torque converter lock up mod? Does it really do much more than stock? I can feel the changes, but I don't see why I'd change it much more than the stock setting.

I have it set to lock at 35 and I leave OD off...

So my normal driving is 1-2-3-lock...then hit the button to go into OD.

Okay -- what does this do? Does it allow your truck to get up and go faster? Not sure what use the co-pilot is. Supposedly it keeps trans temp down some how, which is good.

I know i want one as i drive a lot of city with 45mph roads and dont like being in 4th at 45 so i'd set mine up like cq....and yes, being in lockup provides better acceleration as your mechanically connected, not using fluid coupling....

Give the directions a read and experiment...sure it does some cool things

It is a personal thing...just keep playing with settings to you find where "YOU" like your TC to lock up.

You should be able to feel a big difference in lockup, my 01 pulled HARD when it hit lockup. If you arent feeling any difference you better call ATS

I need to check the connections. When I tried it today it went nuts. Torque converter locked in and out at low speeds. Adjusted it to a higher setting and it made no difference. When slowing down it went in and out. Must be a short. If not, I'm not at all impressed with it.

I would check your connections, the co-Pilot was the one thing I bought from ATS that actually worked decent.

I had a similar problem with my co-pilot with locking and unlocking. ATS had me end up cutting the TPS wire and putting it on a quick connect to where it operates solely on speed. They wanted me to check voltage from the TPS with it connected but I never got around to it.

They told me to check the TPS connection. Where'd you make the quick connect?

Dan:

As the other Members said, check all your connections real well. I am sure it is just something minor. I like the Co-Pilot for drag racing on my trucks as it lets me set the "lock-up" speed down low.

I cut the wire in two and added the connectors

I used to lock up at 20mph...but my tranny was designed for TC lock up in 1st. It will be obvious once you use it for a while...If it is a little harsh at lockup then you won't want to have the lock up near a shift point. KS
