Areo Turbine 4040

Does anyone have the Areo Turbine 4040 muffler? I know that there was an extensive topic on the 4040L. And does a complete exhaust system (Cat back, 4") make much of a difference rather than just changing the pipe?

Cheers,

James

What year is your truck if it is a 04.5 and up no leave stock exhaust alone remove muffler install aeroturbine with a s pipe kit. Stock exhaust is stainless and 4 inch not mandrel bent but still 4 inch

You mention the cat,... so the assumption is that you have the 04.5 or '05. The Aeroturbine is designed to be installed as far forward as possible. If you still have the cat then it's probably not a good idea. There are those who have placed the Aeroturbine in relatively the same place as the cat and it seems to work well when used as designed. Re: the cat back system and if it's worth it,...NOT. Just put on a good high flow muffler to lower restriction and call it a day and save the $$$. A nice tip will help the look. You already have 4" and you'd be replacing it with 4". I never dynoed before or after with the exhaust mods I've done,...but I doubt seriously if you're more than 10 to 20HP at best. Months ago I spoke to Mark at TST and at the time he had dynoed a number of exhaust combos to test for results. He told me that he saw no difference from stock.

Not true. When I dropped the cat on the floor of the shop, with a dyno before and after same day, maybe 45 minutes between 'em, I saw a 10whp gain, run after run.

We have a 4040 on the 2004 in our shop. It works well when placed as far forward inthe system as possible. The difference between the 4040 and 4040L is 4040L is 6" longer for the resonator that is built into it. The kits we make have enough pipe in them to go from the cat back or from the DP back.

My truck is an '04. What I was going to do was put the Aero Turbine where the cat is, take out the cat, and the stock muffler, and straight pipe it, Aero Turbine back. If I can, should I go even farther than where the cat is/was?
Car nut57, how does the 04 sound with the Aero Turbine?

Saint,

If your cat falls off, install that aeroturbine in the same place......you probably even have a bit more room to go even farther up the downpipe......even better! I would highly recommend the 4040L with this setup.......it has the resonator built in so you would more than likely be better off with this and a straight pipe set-up. I have the 4040L and there is no restriction......it basically a straight pipe in itself.

You should mount the Aeroturbine as far forward as possible in the system. 6"-12" from the bend in the DP is great, right under the passengers feet. We have a sound clip from an 03 on our site at the bottom of this page http://www.dieselpowerproducts.com/exhaust2

Helps to make it a little quieter and reduce drone a little more than the standard 4040.

OK, i changed my order from a 4040 to a 4040L. I live in the middle of no-where, so I want to make sure i get all the right things when I do get them. Thanks for the info Gents,

saint,

Just remember, placement is critical.....just like Car_nut57 stated, right underneath the passengers feet.....even forward of that would probably be even better. I believe you're really going to like the Aeroturbine, I certainly do.....I left my cat in place so the Aeroturbine is up close and personal with it.

If you don't have a sawzall at the ready, borrow one if possible.....will make the removal of the old pipe much, much simpler.

My buddy is a heavy duty mech in a small shop, so we have the whole thing at our disposal. I couldn't change my order, so the 4040 is what I get. Can't wait, one more week until I get all my new toys!!!

Here's a question that may be stupid, what exactly is 'drone'?
