Anything good about K & N

I have installed a drop in K&N filter in my 5.9L. I have been reading some of the threads about them and it doesn't sound like anything good will come from this mod.

Is there anything good about these filters?

Thanks in advance

Their marketing department is good...

Seriously though, they flow well for racing. They may let some dust in, but that's the price you pay.

Personally I wouldn't run anything but an AFE ProGuard 7. Hold the K&N up to a light. You can see right through it. Dust goes right through it too.

I had consistent oil sample reports with silicon at 5ppm with the PG7. Good enough for me!

Yeah...that's what I'm gathering.....this is my first diesel. I've had gassers before and always run K&N in them with no problems...now it sounds like they do no good for diesels

I have had excellent luck out of them before.
The 97 PSD I sold still has the same one from when the truck was new.
Lot of the malfunctions are operator error. Overoiling mainly.

The dry filter technology is much better nowadays.
I like the AMSoil drop in I am running.
The NAPA Gold seems to be a good flowing good filtering choice also.
Lots of posts on folks using that one too.

i run the K&N and i like it, it does say on the box that they filter better when a little dirty, so i just dont clean mine as often. But other than that i love mine, its done me well at the track!

Got any of your own oil sample reports from the K&N or Amsoil?

Just curious.

No oil analysis.
But I see the truck once in a while with over 300k on it.
Sold it to my bud's paw in law. Still pulls his 5er with it.
Kinda wish I still had it.

As far as the AMSoil, I like the easy to clean aspect of it.
I'm sure it filters well according to UOAs I've read about here and other places.

I have the K&N full tube & had the K&N filter. I did a bunch of wheeling for 3 days in a row (it was dusty). When I got home, I could see some slight dust on the inside of the tube to the turbo. So I lost it and bought an Amsoil w/a pre-filter and added it on there.

Here is an oil sample with approx. 10k all with the K&N. You can see it is WELL within spec. The filter had about 13k on it at the time of the sample. I need to change the oil again soon and I will resample. I still have not cleaned it.

I never did and still really don't worry about UOAs.
I did and still do change at 5k regardless.
Sorry no help there.

Guy I sold the 97 PSD to is as meticulous than me.
15-40 Rotella and Fleetguard every 5k.
