I am still trying to decide about turbos myself. But my gut feeling is it would be better to err on the side of smaller rather than larger if you do any towing and especially with an automatic. Plus, my stocker seems to keep my truck pretty cool except in pretty extreme situations.

How does the 64/65/13ss compare to the 62/65/13ss?
I can only respond to your 1st question in part. I ran the 64/71/13ss and imo it was the ideal turbo for a twins setup. It was sooooo driveable on the daily basis and at the strip it would spool great with a power brake launch. It spooled on the street with no power brake at around 15psi. I ran it with the s480. I ran flux 2.5s which I loved. I ran 4 different size sticks and the 2.5s are my favorite for everyday/everything usage. I also ran dual cp3s and the Gusher Mitusa pump. I realize it isn't the setup you address but with this setup there wasn't lag under the circumstances stated above.

I'd love to hear the answer to your second question myself.

Mine spools strong with what I have, stock stix and cp3. The pressure helps out alot. I tow frequently and can't complain. My truck still pulls much better than when it was stock. I love my 62/71, it took a little time to find out what it likes, but once you find a sweetspot it is absolutely fantastic.

Keep in mind though I tow on sw5 of the beta 4.3, I don't get too crazy with it, but never need to, the way I tow I rarely see 1300*. And the whistle it makes puts a semi to shame sometimes. It does take some extensive programming to get this turbo to act right. I found the quicker ramp ups of the betas do the trick, especially with the MP-8 set.

For my mods what turbo would keep me cool the 65 or 71. I will eventually be going to twins so what would be the best for now and then fit nice in my twin setup later. thanks guys.

The 71 wheel will keep your drive pressures in check with twins. The 65 would be best if you tow heavy or a fair amount. To get the 71 wheel to light takes trial and error, but once you get it figured out it is fun.

I started with the 62/65/13ss then upgraded to the 64/65/13ss when my engine was being rebuilt. I was going to go MPI twins, but melting #5 & #6 and losing my job changed that some. I figured with cam and small sticks and exhaust manifold, I could make the 64 preform as good as my 62 did.

That has not worked out for me. I'm just about given up on the 64, I want smoke free DD. I want easy towing, with the 62/65 I could set on cruse at 70mph and never worry about egt, up and down hills with a 7k travel trailer out back.

I had a Diablo Predator, switched to Smarty POD TNT/R for more tuning options, but nothing I have tried all winter has worked. With the 64/65/13ss and my F1.6 sticks its like I can never get enough air for the fuel that is going in. Once I hit 10-12 PSI it clears up ok, 20 PSI and I'm mostly haze free, but I max out at 37 PSI.

When this turbo was a 62, I had the wastegate disabled. When HTT upgraded my turbo they were supposed to check out the wastegate, they turned it around in a day, I woudn't be suprised if that side didn't get looked at. I thinking of pulling it next weekend and opening the wastegate housing up my self.

Right now I think I'll be going putting the stocker back in and going back to the 62/65/13ss. Part of me is thinking about going to the 62/71/13ss but I don't want to be disapointed again and spending more $$$. If I didn't have an Auto, I don't think I would be in this situation.

I am able to light my 71 pretty easily. Not as easy as the stocker, but it takes just a second longer. I became very happy with it when a fellow DTR member told me how to tune my smarty. It was BigWheels94 (just looked it up). He told me to set it at: "TNT Sw-9/TQ-3/Time-2/RP-2/WG-off." We actually went back & forth on a couple p.m.'s, and I might have the timing on 3. But this makes my turbo light much nicely. My truck has been running nicely enough that I have stopped looking at ways to mod it lately. That could also be because I need to be smarter with my money.

I really don't want to bother messing with what I have right now because of possible opacity tests. I need to get an 2nd tank, with a switch, that is full of bioDiesel maybe.

The 62/71/13ss is no doubt fun to drive. I would love to have a Helix 2. I am just no physically able at the moment. My good knee is giving me fits and no way do I want to be climbing around under the hood of this truck. Dangit. I must be getting OLD......LOL
