Anyone have a DIY on silencer ring removal?

Trying to remove the sliencer ring and had a few Questions:

1. How long does the whole job take?
2. Any problems down the road for the turbo?
3. Anyone have any video clips of the silencer ring removed, curious to here what it sounds like.

to find the pics and sound clips do a search that should give you all you need. but to remove the silencer ring takes about 10 minutes to do. just take the intake tube off and look in front of the turbo fins. there will be a piece of what looks like thin metal and a snap ring that holds it in place. take a small flat head screw driver or a pic and get under the open portion of the snap ring and the go all the way around. the ring and silencer will then just about fall into your hands. very simple. i love the way it sounds after its removed music to my ears

Yea, did a search and seems like fun. Anyone have a clip of one w/o the ring?

Also, how hard is it do this CHEESE BOX MOD.

Im thinking of doing both since im right in that arae anyways. So I simply drill holes in the box and thats it? Put the stock filter back in and im all set?

Yup. Just don't press too hard as you drill or the bottom of the box will break!!!

3 inch hole saw, 3 holes, you're done......... then you will use the search function and look up info on the BHAF..... then home made torque tube..... then nightmares about you're kitty running away..... then muffler delete........ then which box is best for my truck....... then what torque converter do I need...... valve body...... injectors........ turbo upgrade or twinns......... Bombs away my friend and welcome to the addiction.

After playing with the dern thing for over 2 hours trying to get the that snap ring un done (mine was at a wierd angle) I just grabbed the tin silencer ring with a pair of mini vice grips and pulled it out , snap ring still in place!

Maybe not the smartest solution but it sure felt good!!

Go here http://www.dodgeram.org/tech/dsl/FAQ/turbo_faq.htm and scroll down to the silencer ring part. It does a pretty good job of explaining it and some pics of what they reference.

I didn't have an o-ring pick when I pulled mine out. What I found that worked awesome was a big salmon hook held with vice grips and it got right under and popped out in about 2 seconds.

Hey listen buddies... if you are having trouble pulling a snap ring, stop there and admit your mechanically challenged and put down the tool. Step away from the engine and have a cold one.
