THanks Rob that is about it, going to cost a ton to change, I have always run BFG's and like them, i talked to Billet Specialities today in great length and a place on the West coast which doesn't sell Weld but turned me on to them. I have never had Nitto's so I hope they work good.

Ok I've done alot of reasearch on this with some help of a friend of mine. American makes a wheel called the Wolverine he has mounted a few of those on 3G dodges and most have gone with a fender flair. they all stick out and there is nothing that wont yet. We have called weld cause of rumors about them makeing wheels and noone is aware of anything over there. Now there is no place around my way to get ultra wheels the closest place is a state away. they make a few wheels that have a 5 in to a 5.5 inch back space but from what i understand there finish is less than desireable. it looks good but is high maintenance. if anyone lives near a distributer and wants to look into it I cant even get pricing here without going through the net or mail order and they all say shore it fits but they just want there money.

All you have to remember is No Cast, No Billet(1 or 2 Piece) and only forged IF you are going to run a 33 or taller tyre.......
Dan, I have run into it also, THEY WANT THE MONEY and will say anything.
To save money I am looking for Blem tyres/wheels, that 3grand deal could be easily 1500.

Gary,
Still in New Orleans on family death related stuff. I have a suggestion and if no one else wants to do this I'll be more than happy to work on it when I get back to Dallas.
Has anyone been able to get through to a product development manager at Weld Racing, American Racing or some other known wheel manufacturer? As more and more 2500 and 3500 Gen 3's are produced, the potential number of buyers will grow. I'd love to be able to buy a set of Weld Stonecrushers for my truck without going to a 4.65 backspacing.
The limited availability of 17" all terrain tires is also frustrating. BFG, Nitto, Toyo and several other manufacturers, seemed to have leapfrogged over the 17" and now concentrate on producing new sizes in 18" and 20" diameters. Nitto alone offers 3 different sizes in the 18" Terra Grappler.
Personally, I'd drop down to a set of 16" forged wheels if they'll fit our brake rotors AND coud find them close to factory offsets. The selection of 16" tires is much more broad.

I was told the dodge market is so small it will be a year or two before awheel manufacture will be making the Proper Back space...
16's WILL not work because the huge brakes(caliphers)
18's are more money
17's are less money
16's are even less
Let me see, I have talked to at length:
Alba, they have wheels but they grind the centers out to fit our trucks, grind the centers out after they have been chromed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Budnik, wheels will be producted in 3-4 months but they are Billet
ColoradoCustom, nope, nada
Billet Specialities, very nice people
Weld
Center Line
HMK
wheelconnection, they will say anything for a sale
wheel pros, good people
Boyd Connington, good people
Discount tire
Info I have collected:
DO NOT GET 2 PIECE Wheels, they will break
DO NOT GET CAST WHEELS, they will break
DO NOT GET BILLET WHEELS, they will break
................................................FO RGED WHEELS ONLY................................. why, they are the strongest........
We all want to run larger tires? Right, RIGHT Larger tires increase the load on any wheel, Even the Billet guys say to run a Forged wheel

forgive the ignorance here, but are you all saying that the 315's stick out of the wheel well too much? I suppose what I'm asking is, on the stock wheels with 315's, do the tires actually mount outside (not flush) of the body of the truck?

with the stock wheels they are fine, rubs a little full lock, but will work, I would suggest flairs........the tops are flush but the fender contours in at the bottom
I just can't stand the OE center cap and the chance of the centers(tyre) wearing out on a OE 8 inch wide rim.

Have you thought more about the stock H2 wheels? They are 17 X 8.5 with a 5.5 in. backspace which seems about perfect to me given the wider 315 tire. With this backspace, it moves the inside of the tire just about 1/4 in. inboard vs. the stock 265's on the 8 in wide, 6.25 in. backspace stock wheel. Yes, they will stick out about 1.75 in. further than stock but seems to be less objectionable than the 4.5 in. aftermarket backspace wheels.
They are very cost effective, are built with the strength for the 315's in mind and the only issue is modifying them with the bigger bore to clear the ram's hubs. The H2 caps could be modified to use the big "C" shape in them to stand for Cummins and overlay "CUMMINS HO" over the HUMMER part but some fabrication and an extra set of caps are required to go this route. I just finished with modifying a set for my 2003 but went with the stock caps by increasing the cap bore. Search for H2 wheel or Hummer wheel in this section to see where others have done this with pictures. They are heavy puppies weighing almost 100 lb with tire and wheel.
I can provide dimensions for the mods if someone needs them but a CNC machining center is required so I'd suggest you line up having someone do the work prior to getting a set.
