Anybody rebuilding 48RE yet?
Is anyone out there rebuilding an existing 48RE rather than just sending out a rebuilt unit and waiting for your core to come back?
I want to add a little HP to my truck, but I'm afraid the tranny won't hold up when towing.
On my Ford, I had my tranny rebuilt while I waited by Brian's Truck Shop. Anybody doing the while you wait thing for a 48RE?
Taking a nearly new tranny to BTS was $1000 cheaper than a completely rebuilt unit from BTS.

I have built up 17 of them so far, 13 of them were brand new create units from the dealer that I have modded to replace the 47RE in the older trucks. The other 4 were just modified origanals for the owners trucks.

What is the cost to modify a 48RE tranny if it has low miles (5000)?

To those of you who are not familiar with Tim Holt, he really knows his stuff when it comes to these tranny's.
Believe me, when I'm ready to do my tranny, I will pick Tim's brain as much as possible.
Tim, after a 48RE build up and without consideration to other mods, what is the approximate HP/torque increase to the rear wheels?

Well the cost depends on what you want to do with it as to how much you will spend. Things like a aftermarket input shaft is a very pricy piece. I build them to suit your needs and for the bombing done to your truck and keep the cost down when you dont need a over built trans for your setup. Lube mods have been the bigger issue for all of the RWD dodges and a lot of the mods go there.
The thing to remember is that a trans does not make HP or torque, it just moves it. When you bomb your engine you just want to be able to get the added power to the ground with out things slipping or breaking.
For most people that have a mild to medium power mods and a 48RE a modded valvebody and cooler will take care of most of your needs and a convertor varies according on what your doing.
Four of these transmissions that I shipped out cost $7000.00 dollars each but were EXTREAMLY modified and are considered RACING only! They took me 10 days build each one. They woudnt even be considered for every day use like yours. They started out as brand new from the dealer and went from there.
The price you would spend would depend on your local shop and their prices. I can list part numbers for you and can suggest different methods that you can consider that you can do yourself or get your local shop to do for you but I cant give you prices.
