Any reason I shouldn't get an Aurora 3000?
I did a search on the ATS Aurora 3000 turbo on here. From what I can tell it sounds like it will do everything I want in a turbo. http://www.atsdiesel.com/ATSWebsite/...e/TurboA3K.asp
I am adding a TS MP-8 to the Smarty soon. Trans upgrades are coming soon too. My thinking is that I want a 550-600 hp daily driver/tow vehicle. If I go above that powerwise, it just sounds/seems........from my reading here on DTR that it will require ALOT more expense and will lose reliability/longevity. I know I could change my mind down the road....but im thinking that should be my goal for now.
According to ATS....the A3K will spool quicker than the stocker turbo and move lots more air. I would think that would assist in not having to babysit the EGT gauge. My towing temps (19.5k total gross) are already cool enough with the stocker (1000-1100 degrees usually)...so they should even be less with the A3K unit, right?
Basically, I want it all....quick spool, cool temps, towing ability, some playing at the track.........without the expense/hassle/tuning of twins. Would the A3K offer a good compromise for that? Any reason I shouldn't get that turbo?

Omaha Ram runs one I haven't. I have only run a HTT turbo's and I am running a66/13 over a Super Dave right now. I don't think it will spool better than stock but I think OmahaRam almost hit 600hp with one so they do move some air.

Yes...Renee is a hottie. More than enough reason to stop at ATS. LOL.
I think maybe the 4000 might be a better choice if you really want to get to 600 hp occasionally. You live down low...so it should spool ok.

I was looking at the 4000 but ATS doesn't recommend it for towing. I don't want my truck to be to laggy. And I thought if I decided to part with some more of my money, I could get the 5k later to go with the 3k and have a twins set up.

I looked at the 3-4 and 5000 too, I bought my 66 used for a good price and thats the reason I went with a "bigger" turbo but I wish I had gone to an SB or 5k now bit thats irrelavant for you.
One thing that kinda turned me off of the ats turbos is that to my knowledge they will not up or downgrade and when I tried to ask ats about it all they wanted to do was talk me into twins and woldnt accept the fact that I didnt have the money for them or that is what i would run. Maybe they can or will upgrade a 3k to a 4k for you or vise versa if the one you get doesnt quite suite you but they would not give me that option.

I had one, it's good for 400-450 rwhp. Only problem is that if you go bigger injectors and chip it up you can explode the tubo because it's not wastgated. Plus your backpressure will be through the roof not to mention really high egts. I have since switch to the aurora compound and love it! But the A3000 is good if you have a programer but have not done the injectors, pumps, ect....

I run an II Silver 62, it spools great just a slight lag off the bottom, a turbo blanket took care of that, and no surging while pulling (3000 lb trailer and 6500 lb skidloader). It works great for my application
