Any opinions on BD torque converters?

Does anyone have experience on BD torque converters? I blew out my lockup on my stock converter with too much power so I am looking to replace it. I like my BD turbo so I thought I would look into their converter.

They are only a single disk, go for a quality triple disk like a Suncoast. Same price, much higher quality.

The thing with these torques, is that they all lock-up at a given point. What you need to figure out is how efficient of a torque you want and what kind of driveability your after. I mean the percentage of the torque 89,90,91%. 89% will require some grunt to get her moving, where 91% will be no problem to get moving. In my truck it's a 90%, however I know it could do a 89%, but when I bought I didn't know the effect it would have on the driveability. So my advice is to find someone with a good convertor and go for a drive and try it out.

Our converters work well in the hp range they are designed to operate. Will they hold 800hp? Probably not because they werent designed to do so. You dont have to have more clutch to be better. That can actually slow down the application of a lockup clutch. We were the first to CNC machine our own stators rather than milling the stock ones. This leads to a more efficient transfer of power when you are not in lockup. Our converters are a DUAL lockup clutch on a single piston. We use a stamped forged steel front cover which is stronger than billet. Go for a ride in a truck that has one in it.

I have first hand personal experience with bd-power. I'll leave it up to you to decide from my experiences.

Went to installer all excited to have a TC and VB install on a previous truck I owned that only had 38,000 easy miles on it. Very long story cut short. After 4 months, Numerous times back and forth to installer on my money, wasted vaction days from work so I could bring truck in numerous times to be worked on, Numerous phone calls to installer and Steve Troyion of bd-power, then spoke to Brian Roth co-owner of bd-power, an extra $1,600 out of my pocket, promises broken by bd-power they finally got me a complete transmission that worked for 28,000 miles before it started showing signs of failure, the TC was slipping. Total spent was over $5,000 dollars on a TC and VB job that was suppose to cost $2,400 including installation and after 28,000 miles needed to be rebuilt again .

Did I mention that the only power enhancement I had on the truck was 60 Hp stage I injectors. So much for keeping the Hp within the range they are designed to operate. Hello, my truck (1999 auto) only dynoed 232 Hp with the 60 Hp injectors. The TC was suppose to handle up to 400 Hp .

While I was at the installers shop numerous times many other guys were coming in with the same problems they were having from bd-power transmission parts.

Many, Many other guys from other websites tried to tell me to stay away from bd-power but I wouldn't listen .

Moral of story; "Choose wisely and learn from others experiences".

well , like somebody else said above go for a ride in somebody's truck that has a upgraded single disc converter .. i don't know alot about single disc vs triple disc converters but a buddy of mine has a triple disc converter in his truck and i have a dtt single disc converter and vb in my truck and mine feels waaaaaay better then his .. IMHO ..i am super pleased with my transmission ..
i honestly believe bd power parallels banks in a way .. way over priced for what you get . here again JMHO .. there are many options out there
