Another twin thread... Garrett Ball Bearing Twins

Well at the 700+ I push, I am 1:1 at 70psi then it starts to climb. At 75psi I have seen 90psi DP. At 85psi the 100psi gauge is past the mark by about 10psi... just a guess though.

Rick-- my truck is Almond... a perfect sleeper color!
TRX-- a stage 2 will work just fine with a 4202... a great towing package that will support 600 I am sure. That will be the fastest spooling twin set around!

HOw about temps in the intake horn?
thanks.

I have no idea what the intake horn temps are when the boost is that high. But the CAC gets pretty heat soaked after a few floggings; I can still keep my hand on the output side though.

Right on, thanks for all the detailed answers! Sounds like it might be worth saving up a little more $$ for the Garretts.
How loud are the turbos at freeway cruising speeds compared to other twin setups you've driven? I like the jet engine rush sound my small BD twins make when I get into it, but I can't really imagine anything louder on a long drive.

Having said that though, average cruising speeds down the hwy doing 3-10lbs of boost you really don't hear them that much... about as intrusive as the FASS at worst. By the time the radio is on you don't hear them unless you are getting on them.

85psi is as high as I have had them... and they are screaming then. But the DP's are as I reported before... no more than 25psi DP more than boost at the very worst... at 70psi it is 1:1.

If you can keep your hand on the output side, it's less than 160 (which will burn skin). I'd expect that intake temps were then about 180 (maybe less) as the air inside is always warmer than the surface temp of the CAC.
1:1 at 70psi is awesomely cool. I suspect there are a lot of twins setups that can barely hold 1:1 at 55psi!
Would you have had any problems fitting a regular 4508 under there? The 4508 turbine will function a little better at the higher flows that that housing vice the smaller 4202 unit.
If I do the BB twins (which are increasingly looking more like a distant wish than any kind of actual possibility), it's gotta be a 4508 on bottom for me because a 4202 can't flow the air I want at a low enough PR.
I measure the space in my truck and I think I could physically fit a 4718 (regular, not custom like yours) in there, but only if I didn't have a top charger or a manifold in the way.
The fact that you see 3-10psi cruising on the interstate tells me that the top charger is small enough to be streetable and the bottom charger is sufficiently large that it's not getting spun up over every little hill.
Do me a favor and post of vid of your spoolup, if you wouldn't mind.
Then *I* can post a link to my initial Garrett post back in the day. "I believe it was titled, "When did Garrett start making turbos for our trucks?" or something like that). Maybe then I get to be cool by proxy or something.
Or not..

Good idea HOHN!!!!!!!! A vid would be awesome. I like Garrett turbos and I also like the center sections being water cooled. Turbo's last alot longer having liquid cooled center sections in my experience. The price will make you say wait a minute. But IF the performance is all that then you have to pay for that.

I have no way at the moment to make a vid... (yeah toys under the hood but tech challenged otherwise) but I will seek a way... I think my sons' phone can do this.
Justin, I misunderstood what you asked before, sorry...
PR balance for the most part differs on how I actually accelerate. But, for the sake of discussion, it should be noted that the primary usually shows about 2psi when cruising with 4-6 total psi boost at 65-70mph. For the most part, the primary is about 1/4-1/3 of boost until about ~20psi when it is pretty close to 1:1 all the way to 70-80 psi. Sometimes the primary is a few psi ahead of the curve. The secondary is wastegated at 40psi.
A gt45 is a tight fit but doable without any big gyrations or cutting. A gt47 would require extensive gymnastics, a torch and sawzall... that's a big snail!

I'll have to run up sometime as I've promised him some wheel time in my truck.
