Another beat to death topic....exhaust

I have an 03 CTD and ive already put the geno's straight pipe on it and it was giving the semi trucks a run for their money noise wise! What im looking for is a complete system thats louder then stock but not as loud as straight pipe with out a cat. Im leaning toward MBRP but i hear there pretty loud. I dont want to turn this into a battle of the exhaust systems just give me some opinions based on what you all have run or are running presently.

thanks Russ

MBRP Exhaust

Running the MBRP 409 dual cat back system. Cat in place. It's loud enough for me. Deeper and louder than stock, but not super loud. Tried the cat test pipe to lower EGT's but it was loud. Not so bad for day to day driving, but if you tow anything, and encounter any hills, very loud. I run empty 90% of the time but when I tow it's for hours on end, and it got way to loud. Would love to put a cut out so I could by pass the cat for regular duty then have it on when noise was too much. Love this set up. Loud enough to love, but quiet enough that the wife (future kids) won't mind.

I started running it on 2 a year ago, about 6 months back i turned it up to 4, i have been hearing about injector problems with the ez turned up. I now run it on level one. It doesnt launch as quick, or spin the tires as easy, but i am satisified.

dodgetech77,

You might try one of our MBRP performane replacement mufflers, on an 03 you'll need a 3.5 to 4.0 adaptor to connect to the 3.5 inch factory intermediate pipes. Everyone that has installed them likes the volume and sound/tone of it. They are 409 stainless and have the hangers welded to the muffler just like a stock system, makes for an easy install. The bolt right on to a 2004.5+ as they have the 4.0 inch intermediate pipe from the factory.
