Are all water pumps the same?

My water pump is ok but noticed few droplets coming out of bottom. so it is on its way out. I want to order one now so I have it on hand. Dealer wants $350 canadian and I can find them on ebay and rockauto.com for $55. They say water pumps are all the same for 1989-2005 Is this correct? Are the new 5.9l Common rail engines still B series ? I have a 2004.5 will a 1989 or 1998 water pump work? What do I all need for the job?(o ring or gasket?)

Get Cummins water pump 4089142 and o-ring seal 3906698. The water pump list is 186.19 and that is the absolute highest you should pay. Dealer net is 123.09 for reference. The seal is about 2 bucks. It is a gravy water pump to change, probably the easiest I have ever done.... including a small block Chevy in my '70 C-10. Just tie the belt up some. When you put a ratchet on the idler use a zip tie to keep the ratchet in place so it doesnt spring back and it will make putting the belt back on a lot easier. Theres only 2 bolts that hold in the water pump and you just ****-chung in the new one and let the air burp real good out of the cooling system before you think your t-stat went out also. Dont be scared, its not even a 2 beer job.

I hate that Quickserve will not let you save pics. I even tried to make the page available offline and save the pics then convert to GIF or JPEG or anything but it will not work. Heres the best I can do right now

To a point. I would avoid Ebay since there is alot of "Made in China" stuff on there that isnt worth a crap.

Is the water coming out of the weep hole or from around the housing. It may just need to be resealed. Napa shows the water pump for 59.99 down here. NWP557145 is the part number. Thats a pretty big price difference, I believe I would get the Napa one.

thats what im saying. i know cummins parts may be best but if its $130 difference i might as well get the cheap one. even if i get 60000 km out of it that will take me 5 years to get 60,000 km mark.

Do not get from dodge dealer , get from Cummins dealer .
That being said , I got one just as a spare , but came looking to see if it was avalable at a better price , it was about $186 before my 10% discount .
