Before going to a cold air intake I ran Airaids for 100000 km with no problems. Kind of a pain to clean, though. I should have gone with a foam filter.

peacemaker,
If the AFE is the Pro Guard 7 it does, it's all we sell as we want to make sure no dirt gets into the engine. The 4 and 5 layer filters are known to let in the dirt etc. Call us if you have any questions, I also think we can save you some money on that filter at 85.00 it's a bit high.

I have the Air Aid drop in on mine too. It is 7 layers and works fine. I noted slight difference in fuel economy over the OEM. But I lost it with the striaght pipe because I like to mash it down and watch the Sunday drivers curse me.

CETANE,
Double check your Airaid info they use 5 layer gauze from all the literature and web site information they have. It shows a picture with 7 layers but they are counting the wire mesh screen that holds the 5 layers together front and back etc.

An update on what I got. I ran across an afe drop in filter and ordered it. I thought by looking at their website that it was a 7 layer filter. When I got it this morning the box said 4 layer and when I held it up to the sun it looked just like a k&n would with the little holes in the guaze. I'm not too happy with my purchase and will probably send it back. I was hoping to get by with this until I could get a cold air intake.

AFE has two filters, the Pro-Guard 7 and a standard 4 layer filter. It's not AFE's mistake (unless you ordered from them directly), but rather the place you got it from. This is why it's best to stick with buying from folks who know the parts and the truck. MHO.
AirAid filters are 5 layer. The AFE Pro-Guard 7 is a full 7 layers. I have a Pro-Guard 7 in my personal truck, but AFE also has complete intake kits too, and they can come with either filter as well.
