Air Intake Elbow!

on the stock air filter elbow that comes out of the turbo there are plastic fins. are you able to take those out and not mess anything up? will it make your turbo louder?

Yes you can take them out.. No it won't make your turbo louder you'll need to remove the silencer ring!!

I would absolutely not recommend removing these air guides. They help the air make the sharp 90 degree turn into the turbo, and do make a difference.

Do a search on laminar flow. Very interesting.

True... THey do want to make money you know as well as I do how much wasteful parts go into these vehicles but obviously the aftermarket intake fellas know what they are doing too or they'd have baffles!!!

The air in the intake moves at 300 mph under high boost!! A slight turn can disrupt flow. I think the real difference is in spool of the turbo as opposed to total power measured by a dyno.

I think a better argument can be made for leaving this part in as opposed to removing it. The Afe torque tube is a completely redesigned part, but I still use the original elbow. I have personally experienced a difference in spool using another design torque tube than the one I currently use, and this was only with the stock turbo.

A good read is laminar flow and how air can pool up in a corner when trying to make a turn, especially a 90 deg. turn. Turbulence.
