Aftermarket torque converter on stock tranny
I am new to this forum and had a few questions. I have a 2005 dodge ram 2500 87k miles. Tranny still shifts hard. I have a FASS 95, smarty Jr, Banks CAI & manifold, and 33" nittos. I am not seeing a lot of low end get up and go and keep getting cut off by soccer mom vans (not to mention I cant even really spin the tires unless the road is wet). I am saving for a tranny, but dont have enough yet. I am contemplating putting an ATS 5 star triple disc soft lock TC on, but a buddy says ring and pinion is a better bet. My questions: is it worth putting a triple disc TC on a stock tranny? would I need to do the valve body and is that something a non-mechanic can do? What kind of HP to the pavement increase would I likely see?

A converter will help though I'm not sure how much you will notice being I have no experience there. Best bet would be to call ATS and ask them for advice. Your gonna have to pull the trans to do the converter so it might be worth it to deal with what you have and acquire parts to do it all at once... I know I don't want to pull a trans more then once if I can help it... good luck!

In stock trim, the Cummins makes a lot of torque. 33" tires arent; so big that you should lose a lot of torque. You should be able step on the gas and at least keep up with any soccer mom on the road. You you can't, I would take a close look at your truck before adding any performance parts.
My truck is stock except for the Smarty Jr, which I use to turn the power down. Even at 6,200' ASL, I can step on it and jump out in front of any mini van on the road.

Hmmm...I appreciate all the input guys! I havent noticed any hissing or loud or unusual noises. I change the oil and all filters regularly. Not sure where Id even begin in terms of potential problems. Suggestions?

That trans is probably slipping under low rpm's. I'd try a valve body first as the trans does not need to come out for it, then save up for a converter afterwards. If you save up enough go for the full built trans/good torque converter. You'll hear a lot of good things about goerend as well.
