K2s are a bit pricey even.

I see some price overlap between the Access and the Polyglass. Are the cheaper end Focals still as good/better than comparably priced more well known speakers (JL, Pioneer, etc.)?

Really not diggin' $500 for a pair of front speakers, but if their cheaper models at ~$300-$350 are still better than other models in that price range, then that is OK.
I have the low end Focals and the sound is crisp and sharp-- They (Focals)are audiophile quality. I get many compliments on how my system sounds. The least expensive Focal will sound better than most mid-level and some high end speakers. They are that good.

I was able to listen to something from the Access line, and also the Polyglass 165 VBs. Same HU, same song etc. IMO the 165 VBs sounded much much better than the Access. They sounded a bit muddy/flat to me. Not knocking your speakers of course, everyone has different preferences, just wondering if you listened to the Polyglass too?

The Polyglass 165 V30s are on sale right now for $319 @ Pacific Stereo (Normally $5xx)...kind of leaning that way. Haven't heard them though yet.

Anyone know what the max speaker mounting depth is, and, what the max distance from the door to the plastic door panel is?

The max mounting depth is subjective depending on the speaker placement in the existing hole. If the speaker is mounted in the center of the 6x8" hole there is at least 3 inches to the rolled down window. If you try to push the speaker towards the lower part of the opening the window mechanism may hit the magnet, maybe 2" depth there. On the other side there isn't as much room as I'd like. I can't measure my truck right now, but using a 5/8" MDF plate I had to be very careful of the clearance with a set of Boston Z6 mids. There is less than 1" total, but it should be fine with a thin mounting plate.

I haven't seen how the 6x9 hole is in the door yet. Is it oriented horizontally or vertically? Basically, I'd want to know where to tell the guy to make my opening for the max depth. Center, or towards one side or the other.

Here is a picture of the door. You can see the window track on the right side of the opening. What you can't see is the window gear that sweeps the left side. I think the deepest point is in the center of the opening.

There are commercially made speaker adapter plates available, and some speaker sets come with some common adapters.

http://www.crutchfield.com/p_142SA69...peaker+adapter

Due to the door panel clearance I wouldn't go thicker than 1/4" max on the adapter plates. I'm looking at using G10 or Aluminum in 3/16" or 1/8"

Oh yeah, I saw those on Crutchfield. I am thinking an MDF plate for $20 is probably better than those plastic ones for $15?

These MDF plates are 1/2" though.

I think 1/2" is too thick to comfortably mount any drivers behind the door panel. You may end up having it fit, but it would suck to tear or damage the surround on the speaker finding out that they don't fit. Mine on 5/8" plates fit with maybe 1/8" to spare from the door panel to the speaker surround. My new speakers have more excursion and will hit if mounted the same way.

I have the stock single cd, 7 speakers and noticed only my 2 left speakers were working. The magnet fell off the drivers door speaker, so I removed the speaker and it needs to be replaced. Are these hooked up in series like Christmas lights used to be and that's why the dash and left rear speaker isn't working?

I'm hoping to only have to replace the front door speakers, but maybe something came loose somewhere knocking out the dash speakers?
