Aftermarket Exhaust Manifold worth the $?
I'm going to be upgrading to a HTT HTB2 62/12. I was debating on also installing an aftermarket exhaust manifold at the same time. My truck is a DD & I use it for my side job of small engine repair.
I was wondering what you guys thought of them. Will it help in the MPG department (even a little)? Or would I be better off spending the extra $ somewhere else?
Also if you could please recommend an exhaust manifold, I'm leaning toward ATS.
Thanks in advance!

The stock manifold is known the crack because if being a one piece design. The flow is a little better with aftermarkets but, not enough to say you will get any benefit from it.

I have an AFE Bladerunner on order, that should be here within the next 2 days.
My motor is completely stock, and this will be the first 'performance' updrade.
I also am going to order an aftermarket air intake kit. I will install it the Bladerunner by itself and report any improvements, over the next two weeks.
I will then install the air intake kit, which will hopefully compliment the Bladerunner.
I will let everyone know any MPG or performance increases.

I put a manifold and a modded CP3 on last week and I'll tell you my turbo has never spooled quicker. It spools faster than the stock turbo did when my truck was lightly modified. I attribute the improvement largely to the manifold. HP wise you probably won't see a diff. but efficiency wise the turbo will spool quicker and the exhaust is better utilized.

you could always go with headers. I forget the maker but, they were at the DHRA event in Houston with some really cool chrome plated headers for 2nd and 3rd gens.
Maybe someone that was there will post in with who it was.

now that sounds pretty interesting. i would definitely like to check that out- i wonder if exhaust leaks are still an issue with headers? i remember that being a constant problem with vehicles that i put headers on in the past.

I've always heard that cast manifolds were better for turbos, due to the extreme heat that they can handle without cracking. Tubular headers are prone to cracking at the welds and bends when used under extreme load / heat situations.
This could be a mute point now with some of the treatments they have for metals allowing them to withstand more extreme situations.
