aftermarket chip traceable?? Please help set me straight
If you put an aftermarket chip in your dodge can the dealer's service department when they hook it up to dianostics know it was there even if you swap it out with the o.e.m. one before service? I was told that Chrysler was able to even figure out what brand of chip it was. This "service" guy said as soon as you put a aftermarket chip in and start the truck even if you take it right out the truck "remembers it". Any truth to this?

a basic scan wont find it.
if they really want to know, they can dig deeper and find signs of a chip such as high rail pressure or higher-than-stock boost.

Its not that easy for them to find it. Like stated before a simple scan wont uncover the use of a chip. Most often they need a good reason to look that deep. But yes if they look hard enough they will find it. Me, i could care less.

they can tell physically by the connections under the hood if they have been tampered with. the plugs will have fingerprints on them and or be cleaner than if they were undisturbed. and the computer will have a footprint in it if they look hard enough, my TST throws a code all the time that they will see.Even if there is no code they can see modified signals from some of the sensors.
If it is a programmer, the only way they can tell is if they have reflashed the computer for some TSB and you put a programmer on it. the programmers usually won't have the reflash in their "stock" program and the reflash they did prior will be gone. the programmers don't pull the reflashed program when you download their performance program.

I agree also with summit. Find a decent dealer even if you have to drive abit. Most dealers here in Idaho carry "chips", with truck prices so low they need to make money some how. My 05 was delivered with the juice / attitude installed. They did a nice job to boot.
