AFE Filter Cleaning
So while changing the oil today, I noticed my filter needs a good cleaning.
My only question is why everyone says not to use the AFE cleaning kit?
Is it a bad oil product? Cleaner? Applicator?
If it matters it's a PG7 filter.
Thanks In Advance

I used the AFE cleaning kit to clean my standard filter. Kind of a pain in the butt. I have a second Pro-Guard 7 filter, so I was in no hurry. I had to use the cleaner twice in a bucket to get it half azz clean. Let it dry 3 or 4 days, then light spray with oil, let dry for a day or two another light oiling until it looked even.

I use the K&N cleaner and oil. As mentioned by Kelley15 easy to buy just about anywhere. Also the k&n cleaner seems to do a better job of cleaning the filter and the oil sprays out in more of a mist, unlike the afe stuff that sprayed out in a stream. Makes it a lot easier to recoat the filter without applying too much oil...and the k&n stuff is red so you know if you missed any spots.

don't use k&n products on the pg-7...i made the mistake of using the oil once and a bunch got sucked through the filter and it slimed up my entire downtube...as well as the air sensor...then my truck threw a code on me..major pain to take everything apart and degrease it...

From what I've read, the AFE oil won't interfer with the air sensor the way the K&N oil will. I spray mine with Simple Green and wash it that way and use the AFE oil. First cleaning kit I had the oil was in a pump spray bottle. Kind of a pain to spray the filter. The second kit had the oil in an aerosol can. Whole lot easier.
