AFE air filter
I recently purchased a 2003 Dodge 2500 5.9l and it has a AFE filter in it, the previous owner said to wash it in soap and water, blow out ,let dry but don't oil it.Should I be oiling this? I had a K/N on a quad that every time I clean it I oiled it?? (it is red in color)

Im not sure which filter you have but Imost definatly would not blow it out, that can cause Tiny little holes to let the dust through, especially if its a non-oil filter. There should be a part number on the filter itself. look it up on AFE's website to see which one you have exactly.

I had an AFE filter on mine and you did not wash it in soap an H2O and then blow dry the thing!!! I changed over to the Volant Power Core dry filter and you don't oil it or blow it out ether..... Just lightly tape it on the ground to knock the stuff out of the filter..

I am also very curious about AFE filters. BTW, they do have a dry filter, which is what I am looking at. I actually called AFE and they recommeded there 7 layer oiled cotton gauze filter over the dry filter due to higher filtration ability. However, I really want to get away from oiled filters. Has anyone run their dry filter with their prefilter for a while? I think I am gonna give it a try, but would like some feedback.

i have the AFE pro dry filter it is white in color and in the instructions it come's with, it says to wash it in soap and water or blow it out or just tap it on ground depending on how much junk is on it. the filtration rate 99.2% on the dry filters. i.ve been running mine with no pre-filter yet and it seems to be fine so far, no dust in the tube.

The red one is a filter you will have to oil. The instuctions for my blue AFE did not recommend using soap and water to clean the filter just thier cleaning spray you buy. Some of the dry filter due state you can blow them out with air, Ea filter from Amsoil, I was told you could by the guy on the phone when I looked into getting one.
