Aero Turbine Muffler - Diesel Engine Application

Have any of you folks installed an Aero Turbine Muffler on your diesel?

http://www.aero-turbine.com/?flash=1

If you have, could you tell me what you think of it?

1. On a 3rd generation Dodge/Cummins application is it much louder than the stock system during freeway/interstate/pike cruising?

2. Did you notice any mileage increase/decrease?

3. Did you notice any engine performance change?

4. I realize that at engine start-up it would be louder, but I'm wondering about just steady cruising. I do hear a certain amount of engine drone(It's nice.) while cruising, but would this muffler cause a rather annoying, intrusive drone through the cab?

The muffler has a life-time warranty.

Please check out their website that I've included and tell me what you think?

I love mine, I think it is quieter than stock at idle, and it roars when you stomp on it. I get no drone but some report drone. Also some report it is louder than straight pipe. I mounted mine as close to the turbo as possible.

Eight,

I really like it. They are very quiet at idle and I was actually expecting it to be louder when romped on. It is a little buzzy when towing a grade but not nearly as bad as a smallblock running a FlowMaster.

Since I hooked up the Quad intake I'm consistently getting .3 mpg better mileage in town. I have yet to take a long road trip with it yet to see the highway numbers.

Hmmm... "very quiet at idle" is not how I would describe my aeroturbine, but I LOVE it!!

I installed a 4040L on my truck right after the cat. At idle it's a bit louder than stock, and a lot more throaty sounding. I've had several random people (grocery store, boat shop, etc) come up to me while my truck was idling and ask about the exhaust, saying "that's what a diesel is supposed to sound like"! When you step on it hard, especially towing, it has a nice low but fairly loud (outside) rumbly growl that you definitely know is there. You will hear it towing a load up a hill, but it's not a drone or a bad thing, just a beautiful exhaust tone. Once on level ground, it's a little louder than stock, but not annoying on long trips at all. Honestly, I think it's about perfect and I wouldn't change a thing... but it sure would be interesting to see how it sounds with the kitty removed!

As for mileage and power, I don't think you'll see a huge change, maybe a couple tenths, but you'll see the EGT's go down at least 100 degrees when combined with intake mods!

AeroTurbine

Ditto to what JeepDude says. my 04.5 sounds exactly as he describes, and my friends, which is pre-CAT era is somewhat throatier. To my ear, both sounds more "refined" than a straight pipe, but definitly much gutteral than stock. The CAT and stock muffler always sounded a bit as if someone jammed a potato up my pipe. I really wasn't looking for alot of noise, and while this is certainly louder, to my ear, it is more of a "nice sound". Cranking in the Ramifier turns up the volume, but it is analgious to turning up the volume on one of your favorite rock & roll tunes.....you know, like a Bob Segar or Joe Cocker hit.
As to the workmanship of the unit.....it borders on artwork. I know they are using automatic machines, but what I would give to be able to lay a bead like that!

I've ridden in and driven Runamuk's truck with the Aeroturbine installed on it and I like it alot. The only thing I don't like about it is that there is no turbo whistle since the cat is still on. But, you gotta be legal.

I am running a Aeroturbine 4040. At idle mine is not as quiet as stock...which I think is a good thing. It is not too loud at idle either, just sounds "right" for a diesel truck. The only time I notice it getting a bit louder than most would like is when I am hauling a cattle/horse trailer up grade. Even then I still think it has a nice deep throaty sound. My brother in law has an 03 straight piped, when the trucks are compared side by side my 05 with the aerobine just sounds more substantial.

As far as fuel milage increases, I saw maybe a 1 mpg increase. And I have no gauges...yet, so I can say nothing of EGTs.

I have had the 4040 on the truck for a little over a month now, and have no complaints as of yet. (and I am picky about things like that )

I agree with the fellows above, the Aeroturbine is well constructed, lowered my EGT's and sounds great. As far as the fuel mileage is concerned I didn't notice much if any gains associated with this upgrade...but that might be due to the fact that I am always on the go pedal now.

For the 05 application we have seen very good results using the Aeroturbine 4040L and off-set pipe as a cat back system. The Aeroturbine is mounted at the outlet of the cat and the off-set pipe takes the place of the factory muffler. These systems have a nice deep sound and are not much louder in the cab. They are also very good for lowering EGTs.

Get one and have it welded on right behind the cat and you will not be sorry. I consistantly get compliments on the sound especially when I stomp on it.
