Aero-Turbine 4040L

Anyone running the Aero-Turbine 4040L with the built in resonator? Just curious on the noise level and performance.

I had an Aeroturbine 4040L installed and ran it for a few days. It was slightly noisier than I wanted so I added a 26" Nelson. There is just enough room for the 26" Nelson and the 25" Aerotuebine 4040L. The sound is absolutely awesome and completely tolerable. The diesel expert at my dealer was IMPRESSED.

Does your truck have a cat on it too? Reason I'm asking is if it does not, perhaps I can get away with just the aeroturbine and cat.......I don't like the idea of a cat, aeroturbine and a muffler......that just sounds more restrictive than the stock muffler set-up.

Thanks.

I'm running the 4040L in my 05. I got used to the noise. It's really only noisy at 70mph anything above or below is actually pretty quiet

Did you mount the aeroturbine where tha cat use to be? Did you have to buy additional 4" replacement pipe at all? If so, where did you find it. I'm thinking of mounting a aeroturbine right behind my cat and eliminate the muffler enitirely....this leaves me with finding 4" pipe from aeroturbine back to where the muffler use to be.

thanks.

it won't be... the stock muffler is very restrictive... the aeroturbine and a proper muffler shouldn't introduce much additional backpressure.

My truck has a cat. The 26" Nelson that I am using is completely non-baffled and the 26" 4040L AeroTurbine has no more resistance than straight pipe; in fact, the supplier claims it is less than straight pipe. Great sound!!!!

I have a 4040L mounted where the stock muffler was. I had a 5" stainless tip but replaced it with a turndown and the sound is livable, it is still somewhat loud at WOT and/or under heavy load. Believe it or not the turndown, turned down and back, made a noticeable difference.

I am told that the mounting the aero right after the cat is the best place, now I find out.

I have not decided if I want to spend the money to move mine and maybe add a resonator/ straight through muffler.

I do like the tone, very deep.

Trashdawg5050,

Watched and listened to the video.....is that with just the 4040L only? If so, that's not too bad at all! Mine would be more subtle since I'm leaving the cat on.

Thanks for the info and video.

Take the cat off, your temps will decrease 100 degrees. Diesel performance products in Pasco will set you up with everything you need. Talk to Dave

Talked with Dave yesterday and ordered my aeroturbine and pipe. As much as I would love to take my cat off, I just can't force myself to do it. Legal issues and flak from the dealership. I personally know a guy with a second generation that went straight pipe (**** it was loud too) took it in for warranty work and the dealer said "why would you want to invalidate your warranty by removing your muffler and resonator?" After he heard that, he put a performance muffler on it. Later on, I may knock that screen out of the cat since I have personally seen one all plugged up on a friend's Ford.....he took a piece of rebar and knocked the screen out.....I'm quite certain I will still be better off by removing the restrictive muffler and replacing it with the aeroturbine.......taking Dave's instructions and mounting it just after the cat......I'll see how that works out.......main goal is not so much sound but letting it breath a bit better and hopefully reducing egt's.

We have kits with the Aeroturbines 4040 or 4040L that include and offset pipe and extension pipe so you can mount the Aeroturbine right on the outlet of the Cat and use the extension and off-set pipes to connect to the factory tail pipe. We even include the intermediate hanger. This units work very and and have been very popular. Give us a call with questions or a quote.

It is worth moving the Aeroturbine forward. It will make more difference than you think.
