Aero Mufler

I finished my cat delete last night and installed an Aero muffler 4040XL with the resonator in it. Man It sounds sweet but quiets down 1600 rpms which is nice for driving on the highway.

Anyone else have a Aero setup?

I am running the 5050XL with cat in place. 5 inch pipe from the turbo back. Love the deep sound it gives...

I would have to strongly disagree with you on that one. Before the Aero I ran straight pipe from the cat back. When pulling a load at around 1500 rpm the drone would drive you out of the cab. That is why I went to the Aero. Still has nice sound, flow, and I don't notice the drone at all. Most of the traveling we do here in Idaho is mountainous towing so the truck gets worked pretty hard. Just my experience.

Yeah under a good load mine gets a little bit annoying inside. Might go for the Donaldson 40" when I switch over to the 2nd gen exhaust manifold. But empty I enjoy the muffler alot. If only you could have the best of both worlds...I will try it when I put the 2nd Gen manifold and see if it still drones bad. I will add a resonator if still needed, if that doesnt work, then I will ditch it all and go 40"...

I also have to disagree, how much drone you hear inside the cab depends on how far to the rear you install it. I first installed mine 4 inches behind the CAT, as it stated in the install instruction, the drone was unbelievable, right under the passenger seat. I called Aeroturbine and was advised that; if I install it 4 inches behind the CAT I would get the best performance out of it, but if I install it as far back as possible, I would get less performance but no drone. So I installed it back more then the stock muffler was, had to fab my own hangers for it, put one hanger around the middle of if.
I tow a 10,000lb 5er with no drone and it sounds great.

Good info AlCorr. My Aero starts 24" behind the cat. Sounds great and drone isn't a problem.

I put mine approx 12 inches before the bend over the rear axel.

There is very little to no drone but
I can hear the muffler from take off to aboutr 1600rpm's then after that it is really quiet.

That's where the one on our '07's mounted, no cat. Sounds good, but deafeningly loud outside under load. Just fine cruising inside. Haven't towed with it yet.

i have the same muffler location as tslewisz and i had drone bad when towing, granted it was a toyota land cruzer on a car trailer at 80 mph on the interstate. towing the boat around there isnt any real drone, i think the noise for me was tied to the speed and engine rpm and engine load. i love it for around town and cruzing on the interstate great sound and at idle its sounds tough good muffler

I tow my 22' Haulmark with a Jeep, dirtbikes, etc., in it. Not real heavy, but maybe 16,000lbs gross with everything that's in the truck.
I don't run as fast as you.

I have a 4040 on my 92, sounds better than stright piped and quiet in the cab, I like mine.... Common rails are really raspy and hard to tone down IMO, my boss put a 4040XL on his 05 and it's not much better than a stright piped truck. It sounds alright, but love my MBRP on my 04, I know my 04 sounds better, but I have just a tad bit bigger turbo...
