The problem with the location of the filter minder is that it is creating a Venturi. That is when an orifice is placed in an air stream, the air flowing over the orifice actually creates a low pressure (sucks) and air is pulled out the orifice into the air stream. It is the same principal that carbs use on a gas engine for mixture control. If you were to put the filter minder ahead of the filter where the is not an airstream flowing directly over it it would ready normal. Putting a vacuum gauge on the spot would yeild the same results because a vacuum is being formed due to the air rushing over it. It doesn't necessarily mean the filter has a high restriction...in fact it could also mean the filter is less restrictive causing more air to flow to the turbo causing an even higher venturi effect.

I don't know if it helps or not but here is a demo of Venturi effect:

I had a discussion with an AEM tech a few months ago. He told me that the filter minder was useless now, But the company decided to continue to use it because some people feel unconfortable leaving it out.
I also purchased a dryflow filter for my cold air setup on my mustang
Autoanything has them in two sizes. A 9" used on the AEM setup and a 5". They have a large selection of sizes for the mouth opening. The big filter for the AEM ran $46.00, cheaper than a K&N.

Well I had the truck out on the road today in all types of driving situations.
I hit 40psi on many occasions with no problem and my egt's barely touched 1300. I guess I've got to dismiss the filter minder and be happy with the filter. Don't know what my problem was initially, but boost is where it should be.

I talked to the AEM guys at SEMA yesterday and they are doing new filters for the diesels. They are supposed to have 300% more filter media area. They are making the filter itself larger and ovalizing it and they are deepening the pleats.

I have a feeling it is because they know that the current filters are not getting enough air through. He thought they would be available pretty soon.
