Advice on lifting my 03 - pics please

I was asking myself the same question when I was in the market for a lift and tires.

If I had a long bed instead of a short bed it would of been a much harder choice. I dont like how a 6" lift and 37's look on a short bed, way too short and tall, out of porportion if you ask me. Look's like your trying too hard.

But I think it would look great on a quad cab long bed or mega cab, but again it's gonna be a big difference over stock. Its gonna be a completely different truck and driving experience driving a 6" lifted CTD on 37's with a 6 speed manual. Yeah it will still work hard but it was too much of a sacrafice to be on 37's everyday.

I choose to go with the happy medium

I went with a 4.5" Superlift w/ Bilstiens, 18" Eagle Alloy 114, 35" Toyo MT's and have ZERO regrets. First off it look great not too much, and not too little. It looks just right on my QC SB. Rides great due to the Bilstiens, and the 35" Toyo wear and ride great as well. Ive got over 30K on them and I drive hard.

Adding the 35's to my truck sure took alot of passing power away and felt the extra weight and diamiter when shifting since I also have a 6 speed. I wouldnt want to imagine having 37's. The Smarty sure took care of that HP loss but you still cant get away from the extra weight, diamiter, cost and driving charistics of a 37.

My truck still rips it up with 35's and is hard to beat on the freeway once Im done shifting. I dont think it would be as fun with 37's....well maybe if I had an auto but with a 6 speed no way would I want 37's.

Going 6" lift and 37's is gonna put a hurting on your pocketbook initally and everytime you fill up and every 30K miles.

6" lift and 37's will definetly look good if you have a LB or mega but you have to ask your self it the looks are more important then overall performance and operation of your $40K diesel truck.

Yes 35's in a 6" lift will look silly

You could always start off with 4.5" lift and 35's and if you feel the 35's are inadiquete you can usually stuff 37's underneeth it if you bought the correct size rims.

SSS thanks a lot! Seeing your truck on those wheels and tires makes me think more along the lines of 35's....but I've always wanted a truck on some 37" rubber, sittin way up there. It won't be driven anywhere near as much as it is now, likely less than 10k a year. Some might ask why keep it......why not? I love the truck, but again a van is more practical for my business. I may go with 18's and 35's, yours look really, really nice. If I go with 37's it would definitely be 20's. I'll have to look through some "lifted truck" threads here and on other boards to see what I can come up with. My truck is a 5 speed, so rowing the gears isn't as much of a chore as a 6 speed, but it does kinda suck until I get get to 4th, although 3rd ain't bad really.

I really like the lift..I had no driveshaft issues..as for the beafy controls I don't know I thought these looked pretty beafy to me

i would listen to slow six speed! what he says is really true- 35's on a 3-4" lift will give you the height and look plus good highway rpm's without causing you to make big changes in the way you drive and use your truck.

If you plan on using your truck off road go for the 37's you have more than enough power just add some suspension that works.Not just a lift to cruise the blvd


37's with just a 3" lift that will run circles around all those taller lifts.

I got a 03 with a 6" BDS LA and a 3" body. Im putting 2" spacers in the front and then a 2" block in the back to give it 11" lift and some 40" or so tires. I got 37" now and there is lots of room for 40's now but i like a little more extra. Mine handles awsome for a big truck and my rpm's are low. 6th and 37's at 100km is 1700 rpm. its nice at 120 under 2000 rpm and lots of power
